Blake Shelton Gushes Over Gwen Stefani Relationship: ‘She’s My Best Friend’
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are happy and content nearly two years into their relationship.
Ahead of tonight’s CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee, Blake Shelton met with the Today show’s Hoda Kotb after arriving to town on his bus. In turn, Shelton was, of course, asked about his highly publicized relationship with Gwen Stefani, whom he stars alongside on The Voice.
“We’re just content and happy, and it’s just an incredible feeling,” Blake Shelton said. “She’s my best friend.”
According to Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani is sad that the 12th season of The Voice is over because she loves working on the show. As fans will recall, Stefani and Shelton’s relationship began during filming on the ninth season of the show, and during Season 12, the couple continued to flirt with one another on camera. At times, even their co-stars, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys, got in on the action.
Although Hoda Kotb appreciated Blake Shelton’s update on how Gwen Stefani was handling the end of The Voice Season 12, what she really wanted to know was how Stefani was with Shelton.
“Well I hope she’s good with me. I’m real good with her!” he exclaimed.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been dating since late 2015 after splitting from former spouses, Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert, months prior.
When Kotb wanted to know what Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani do when they aren’t busy with The Voice, her kids, or their shows, Shelton said that their hobby is “just hanging out together.”
“She’s my best friend,” Blake Shelton admitted.
At that point, Kotb starts to tear up and Shelton jokes, “Oh, don’t start that… Did I say something completely wuss?”
“You know what happened?” Hoda explained. “Your eyes went really soft when you said it…because it’s real.”
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been gushing over one another since shortly after they went public with their relationship during a Country Music Awards after party in November 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee. They’ve also been treating fans to tons of photos and videos of one another on social media. In fact, just moments after Blake Shelton lost the 12th season of The Voice to Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani shared an adorable clip with fans on Instagram.
In the clip, Gwen Stefani asked Blake Shelton how he was feeling and when he said he felt like a loser, Stefani told him that she still thinks he’s a winner.
“I take it back. I feel like a winner,” he said in response with a big smile on his face.
In July of last year, Gwen Stefani spoke of the first moments of her relationship with Blake Shelton during an appearance on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show.
“We just started this friendship, which was just unbelievable that God would put us in a position to have each other at that moment, in the same exact moment,” she revealed. “His thing had been going on since January, mine since February.”
According to Gwen Stefani, her split from Gavin Rossdale was quite similar to Blake Shelton’s split from Miranda Lambert and they ultimately bonded over their heartache.
“I wasn’t trying to start a relationship,” Stefani continued. “I was just trying to not die. There was no plan.”
“It was an incredible gift to be able to have a friend,” Gwen Stefani gushed. “It was crazy to be able to also musically know somebody in such a different genre of music. [Blake Shelton] ended up writing a song that he sent to me, and I wrote back to him on that song, so we actually got to write a song together.”
