Brad Pitt Reportedly Contacts Jennifer Aniston Amid Angelina Jolie Divorce
Brad Pitt reportedly reached out to his former wife, Jennifer Aniston, after his split from Angelina Jolie in 2016.
According to a new report, the 53-year-old actor, who is currently in the midst of a custody battle and divorce from Jolie, has sobered up and embarked on a new life that has led him to apologize to his former wife for their 2005 divorce.
On June 7, a Life & Style magazine report revealed that Brad Pitt’s recent therapy sessions prompted the apology.
“[Brad Pitt] apologized for all the heartbreak,” an insider said. “He doesn’t usually open up like that, but through therapy and recovery, he’s learned to express his feelings. He addressed all the hurt he caused her.”
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie infamously fell in love on the set of their 2005 film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. Then, just weeks after the Friends actress filed documents to end their marriage, Pitt and Jolie stepped out together during a visit to Cambodia, where Jolie adopted her son, Maddox, now 15.
As if that weren’t enough, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced the actress’ pregnancy just months later, and about a year after Jennifer Aniston’s divorce filing, their first biological child, daughter Shiloh, now 11, arrived. The couple also posed for a cute family pictorial for W magazine a short time after his divorce from Aniston.
After Brad Pitt’s split from Angelina Jolie was confirmed last September, Jennifer Aniston’s longtime friend, Chelsea Handler, fired back at rumors regarding Aniston’s alleged reaction to their plans for divorce.
“I don’t think [Jennifer Aniston] cares about what’s going on and it’s crazy that people think she does,” she said. “As if she’s sitting around caring about [Angelina Jolie]. I know I don’t.”
Although Jennifer Aniston wasn’t happy about the way her marriage ended, she has since moved on with husband Justin Theroux, and when it comes to her relationship with Brad Pitt, she willingly accepted his apology.
“She was really won over by his apology,” the Life & Style magazine’s source explained. “A new era has begun for them.”
“[Jennifer Aniston] was incredibly receptive to the amends [Brad Pitt] was making. She told him she forgives him and to focus on the future,” a second insider added.
One year after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got married at their home in France in August 2014, Jennifer Aniston tied the knot with Justin Theroux at their home in Los Angeles. Now, as she and her actor husband prepare to celebrate their two-year wedding anniversary, Brad Pitt is tending to his custody battle over his six kids, Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and eight-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne.
Following news of Angelina Jolie’s divorce filing, which came just weeks after she and Pitt celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary, rumors began swirling regarding possible child abuse, and for weeks, Pitt was investigated by the FBI and the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services. Then, at the end of last year, he was cleared of the allegations.
Earlier this year, Brad Pitt opened up about his divorce struggles and claimed there would be plenty to discuss with his kids once they were of an appropriate age.
“There’s a lot to tell them because there’s understanding the future, there’s understanding the immediate moment and why we’re at this point, and then it brings up a lot of issues from the past that we haven’t talked about,” Brad Pitt told GQ magazine weeks ago. “So our focus is that everyone comes out stronger and better people — there is no other outcome.”
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have remained estranged in the months since their split, and Pitt has not been seen publicly with any of their six children.
