‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Rumor: Real Reason Kylo Ren Goes After Luke Skywalker Hinted

Darth Vader may be long gone, but his presence will still be felt in Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi, as per the latest rumors about the highly-anticipated sequel.

Although Darth Vader did not physically appear in Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens, he was not entirely absent as his grandson, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), revered him and vowed to finish what he started.

Fans also got to see his burnt helmet, which Kylo Ren has been keeping. The Sith Lord in-the-making will also don a very Darth Vader-esque cape in Star Wars: Episode 8 as he dresses for the job he wants.

Interestingly, there will be more of the Dark Lord of the Sith to expect in The Last Jedi. In fact, the infamous villain is set to be one of the elements that will move the plot along.

According to the ever-ardent Star Wars watcher and YouTuber, Mike Zeroh, the props team built several more relics of Darth Vader that Kylo Ren will show off in Star Wars: Episode 8, including his iconic chest plate, which was recreated at Pinewood Studios.

If it is not the helmet, the chest plate has to be the most recognizable garment easily associated with Darth Vader. Seeing it again in Star Wars: Episode 8 is bound to blow fans away.

It turns out that Kylo Ren has been collecting items that had to do with his grandfather. It is because of this that he was seething when he saw Finn (John Boyega) use Anakin’s lightsaber during their fight in Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens.

Even though he already has the chest plate, having that lightsaber will definitely take his collection to a new level, but there is also another item that Kylo Ren will be after in Star Wars: Episode 8, and it is something that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) has.

As fans know by now, Kylo Ren, along with the Knights of Ren, will come for the Jedi master in Star Wars: Episode 8. He is doing so reportedly because he wants something from him; specifically, another precious Vader relic.

Zeroh believes that this is Darth Vader’s purported Kyber crystal that Luke wears as a necklace. In the Star Wars mythology, Kyber crystals are rare Force-attuned crystals that are used by the Jedi in building a lightsaber.

As per reports, Luke has Anakin’s crystal in Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi, which is something that Kylo Ren is not happy about at all. He will reportedly work to get the Kyber crystal from his uncle, even if he has to fight or kill him for it.

Darth Vader will also reportedly be a subject of an important conversation between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke in Star Wars: Episode 8, as the Jedi-in-training will ask him about the Sith Lord. Zeroh says that this will lead to them talking about Kylo Ren and what he really is after.

Additionally, Star Wars: Episode 8 is expected to explain why Anakin’s lightsaber calls to Rey and why it triggers Force visions when she holds it. Clearly, there is some sort of connection. Whether it is familial or something else entirely remains to be seen.

Based on all this information, it is safe to say that Darth Vader will still be very relevant in the sequel despite the current state of the character. In fact, Zeroh said that his importance in the new Star Wars films wouldincrease from here.

Fans are actually even hoping that Anakin shows up in The Last Jedi as a Force ghost that will guide Luke in training Rey, which was originally planned to happen in The Force Awakens.

Additionally, many believe that Hayden Christensen, the actor who played him in the Star Wars prequels, appearing at the Star Wars Celebration for the space opera franchise’s 40th anniversary could be a hint that he is returning to the galaxy far, far away too.

While Darth Vader appears in Star Wars: Episode 8, it will only be through footage from Star Wars: Episode 5 – Empire Strikes Back, specifically the sequence when he battles young Luke, which was rotoscoped into the new movie.

The scene will reportedly be featured in another Force vision that Rey will have in the upcoming film. This will ultimately allow her to learn more about Darth Vader and also about Luke.

Zeroh also revealed that Disney plans to create replicas of the Darth Vader relics that will be featured in Star Wars: Episode 8 to be sold to fans.

Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi hits the cinemas December 15.
