The Miz Says His Career Exploded When He Made One Change To His Character
At WWE Extreme Rules on Sunday night, The Miz battles Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship in a match where Ambrose will lose the title if he is disqualified. It puts the odds in the favor of The Miz because he showed this last week on Monday Night Raw how he could cause the DQ and cheat his way to the world title.
The Miz is in an interesting spot in his WWE career since returning to Monday Night Raw and went from being a mid-card heel to a borderline main event star. According to The Miz in an interview with USA Today, it was when his wife Maryse returned to work with him that his career skyrocketed once again.
The Miz that there were two things that happened when he was on SmackDown Live that changed the course of his career and moved him back into a prominent role in the WWE again. The first was his wife Maryse joining him in the WWE and the second was his feud with SmackDown Live general manager Daniel Bryan.
Fans really started talking about The Miz again when he had a confrontation with Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack. In that segment, Bryan was insulting The Miz, saying he sucked at wrestling. In response, The Miz said Daniel Bryan was just jealous because he could never wrestle again. It was a short comment that really shook Daniel Bryan and caused fans to start to question whether it was scripted or not.
The Miz had told Fox Sports about that segment and what caused the entire shoot promo to take place.
“I’m the Intercontinental champion. This is the title that I’ve loved since I was a child, and I don’t want to be the guy who says, ‘I’m going to make it great,’ and then not do anything. I want to make it great. So I told them to put me on ‘Talking Smack.’ They asked, ‘Well what are you going to do?’ And I said I’m going to rip into Daniel Bryan. And then I guess I kind of went overboard. And when I go, I have no filter. It’s everything that is fueling inside of me and I just black out.'”
Between that moment and the addition of Maryse, The Miz said his career just skyrocketed again. He said that he had been egotistical and arrogant but with his wife he has a new confidence. He said that he wants to really show off and work hard when he is wrestling in speedos in front of his wife.
The Miz said that he loves having Maryse around and she is a huge part of the success he is enjoying right now.
As fans remember, The Miz started out his career as a joke, a former Real World star that no one gave a chance to make it in the WWE. He soon became a tag team star with John Morrison as M&M and the two won tag team titles. No one could have believed that The Miz would exit the feud as the star.
The Miz not only was involved in a world title match at a WrestleMania but he won that match by beating John Cena. While The Miz only won because of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who got involved and attacked John Cena, it was still a win in the main event at a WrestleMania and not many people can make a claim to that.
Since then, The Miz lost the world title nad never sniffed another shot at a WWE world title. He had a tag team with The Truth and Damien Sandow but settled in nicely at the mid-card level, specializing in the Intercontinental Championship title scene.
When it comes to the Intercontinental Championship, The Miz has been extremely successful, winning the title six times. A win on Sunday night would put him at seven title reigns and move him into second place for most IC title reigns behind only Chris Jericho, who held the title nine times.
