Jenna Dewan Tatum And Jennifer Lopez Strut Their Stuff For ‘World Of Dance’
Jenna Dewan Tatum’s first love has always been dancing. In fact, that’s how she met and fell in love with husband Channing Tatum, so it’s not surprising that Jenna would be up for a new dancing competition series. Ms. Tatum is joining Jennifer Lopez in her latest NBC project, World of Dance, and the duo has already given dance fans a glimpse of what they can expect from the talent series ahead of its Tuesday, May 30, premiere. A previously released teaser for World of Dance is enough to excite reality television fans and talent show addicts with both Lopez and Ms. Dewan Tatum tearing up the dance floor in advance of their contestants.
World Of Dance Brings Together A World Of Talent
Refinery 29 shares the teaser for World of Dance, which brings a panel of judges together to judge a variety of dance acts from individuals to couples to groups. Jennifer Lopez will judge along with Ne-Yo and Derek Hough, while Jenna Dewan Tatum will serve as the World of Dance hostess.
The World of Dance set has been designed to look more like a home studio than a set provided by the network, which should help contestants feel more relaxed in an already tense situation.
Jennifer Lopez launches the teaser with some of her best moves, which comes from a lifetime of professional dancing and performing on various stages. Next up, Jenna draws from her past experiences as a back-up dancer for recording artists Missy Elliot and Janet Jackson, as she tears up the dance floor in the World of Dance teaser.
Derek Hough steps up into the third slot, dancing to some Latin music, before Ne-Yo showcases his hip hop moves.
When asked why she chose to develop World of Dance for television, Jennifer Lopez responded that it was her way of creating “an opportunity and a venue for dancers to actually be the stars.”
Jenna Dewan Tatum Is Trying Not To Become One Of Those Dance Moms
Joining World of Dance might be a golden opportunity for Jenna, but People reveals that her passion for dancing wasn’t passed down to Ms. Tatum’s daughter. Dewan Tatum reveals that 3-year-old Everly tried dancing once and that was all she was going to do.
“She didn’t want to — she took one dance class, but then she didn’t want to go again,” said Jenna.
Jenna admits that she was disappointed, but adds that she took the news with a grain of salt. The World of Dance hostess says she’s concerned about becoming the type of parent who will force her child to do something she really doesn’t want to do, so she tries to keep herself in check.
“She’s very much a do-her-own-kinda-thing girl, so we’ll see what she gets into,” Ms. Dewan Tatum says of her daughter.
Ms. Dewan Tatum says both she and husband Channing came from very controlling families, so their both “super conscious” of not making those same mistakes with Everly.
Either way, Jenna isn’t too concerned. The World of Dance host admits that her daughter is still very young, so there’s plenty of time for her to find her own interests to pursue.
Jenna also shared that, while Channing Tatum was present for the World of Dance tapings, he couldn’t focus too much on what was happening in front of the cameras.
“He was there, but he was on dad patrol,” Dewan Tatum explains. “He was doing the real job backstage with Everly.”
It sounds like Everly is making sure Channing gets his own workouts, while Jenna is hosting the competitions.
World of Dance, hosted by Jenna Dewan Tatum and produced by Jennifer Lopez, premieres on Tuesday, May 30, on NBC.
