There’s no denying that turning 21-years-old is a monumental moment in one’s life, so it only stands to reason that Kendall Jenner would want to do as much as possible to make her big day a memorable event. One way in which Kendall marked the day was by having her favorite designer create a special dress for her 21st birthday party, but, as her fans were soon to discover, Jenner’s chosen dress bears a striking resemblance to the one worn by Paris Hilton for her own 21st birthday bash. As the likeness drew more attention, Jenner’s followers may have expected Ms. Hilton to call Kendall out over the copy. Paris did respond, but not in the way most people were expecting.
Kendall Jenner Copies Paris Hilton And Lives To Tell About It
For her 21st birthday bash, Kendall Jenner was turning heads, but not just because she was the guest of honor. As Oxygen shares, it was Jenner’s sparkling silver mini-dress that drew attention from onlookers. Initially, the outfit drew stares for baring much of Kendall’s body with a very low cut, drooping neckline that bared the model’s torso almost as far down as her navel. The hem was just as daring, riding far up her thighs to reveal Kendall’s slender legs.
Many of those onlookers may have done a double-take after a moment, however. It seems another version of that dress Kendall debuted at that party was previously seen at Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday party, 15 years earlier.
Jenner never attempted to hide that Hilton’s dress was the inspiration for the new outfit. She shared an Instagram picture of herself wearing the creation, adding “vintage Paris Hilton vibes” to the caption.
When asked about the copy, Kendall explained that Paris has always been a close family friend and that she tends to think of Hilton as a big sister. She added that Paris was at the birthday party and loved seeing the dress recreation worn by Ms. Jenner.
Ms. Hilton conformed Kendall’s sentiments, when she was recently asked about the dress.
“It makes me feel happy when I see somebody wearing something I’d already worn before,” Hilton said. “I was actually at her birthday and when she walked in, I immediately was like, ‘OMG that dress. That’s my 21st birthday dress!'”
When Hilton and Jenner compared notes, Kendall revealed that the similarity between the two dresses was intentional, which only caused Paris to feel that much more delighted. She added that Kendall looked like a sparkling diamond in the dress, which is still perfect for a 21st birthday.
Kendall Jenner Takes A Bath With Joan Smalls, Bella Hadid, And Hailey Baldwin
There has been quite a bit of shade thrown back and forth between the supermodels of the late ’80s and early ’90s and their 21st century counterparts. As People reveals, Kendall Jenner is still at the heart of that controversy, defending her generation’s right to bear the term “supermodel” in their own right, by recreating an iconic ’90s image and proving, once and for all, that there’s room enough for everyone.
The image, of course, is the one in which Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista stuffed themselves into a small bathtub. That first image was created at the Versace Couture after-party at the Ritz Hotel in Paris in 1990.
“I asked the girls to get in the tub,” said Lowit, the photographer of that earlier shot. “Sylvester Stallone came into the room and threatened to pour champagne over them, which is why they are squealing in the shot.”
The new photograph featuring Kendall Jenner and her friends was never meant as a dig at their predecessors, but instead pays tribute to those supermodels who inspire them.
Hailey Baldwin, one of Kendall’s closest friends and a successful model herself, adds that they never want to take anything from supermodels of past generations. Instead, the younger generation is simply trying to make their way and build upon the proud traditions established by models of past generations.
Not all supermodels are trying to tear down Kendall Jenner and her colleagues. Linda Evangelista has expressed nothing but support for the Jenner crowd.
“They’re so fabulous, they’ve got the world in their hands. They’re so aware and so in control — they’re just so fabulous.”
