Fredrik Eklund ‘Feels Good’ About What’s Ahead, Two Years After Devastating Loss

Million Dollar Listing New York star Fredrik Eklund opened up to Us Weekly two years after the news that the surrogate carrying his unborn child suffered a devastating miscarriage. The reality star and his husband, Derek Kaplan, were expecting twins in 2015 when they were faced with the tragic loss of their babies.

Eklund and Kaplan have not become parents yet, but things seem to be looking up for them heading into the latter half of 2017.

“We’re on our way now. But I can’t say anything else. We are on our way. Things are changing now. I feel good,” he told Us Weekly.

He also expressed how bad he felt for the woman carrying the twins. Although she wasn’t to be the mother of the children, Eklund said that he respects what she went through and put her body through at the time.

“I am very respectful of that side of it which is a little unknown to me and what our surrogates have gone through,” he said.

At the time, Eklund announced the news a couple of years ago on Instagram. Fans of Million Dollar Listing New York were saddened to hear of the tragedy, and many left words of hope, love, and encouragement for the real estate broker and his husband.

“I’m sad to share we’ve had a failed pregnancy. I have cried so much that I can’t cry anymore. We were pregnant with twins but we’re not anymore. I chose to share this here, because I made this quest for Milla (and hopefully her sibling) public a long time ago. Every day I meet people congratulating me and Derek on the baby news, I get baby clothes sent to the office by kind strangers, and it seems that more people are invested in our little family than I could ever imagine. Our family is no different from yours… we just want to build our own unit of love in our own home. The last couple of days I couldn’t take it anymore, to upkeep this perception of happiness and success when I’ve been a total sad mess inside. I’ve felt like a failure and that I’ll never get to where I want to go: for me and Derek to finally become parents. I’ve heard these stories so many times before, about couples who’ve tried so hard and for so long but now I fully understand how difficult it can be,” Eklund wrote in part.

As you can see, his post was very candid.

The Bravolebrity went on to express the emotions that he’d been feeling — something that anyone who has gone through the loss of a child could easily relate to. He said that he was the saddest at night and that he was trying to see the bigger picture. At the time, Eklund also said that he and Kaplan were going to “try again” and that they were not going to give up.

The couple hasn’t shared any baby news yet, but fans are hopeful that they get to become parents when the time is right. Although Eklund didn’t say too much about what is happening in his personal life, it does sound like things are going well for him and his husband — and that maybe, just maybe, the two will have some happy news to share in the coming months!
