‘Teen Mom 2’ Jenelle Evans Releases Statement After Custody Loss

Jenelle Evans did not win back custody of her son Jace on Wednesday in court.

Although the Teen Mom 2 star hoped to regain full custody of her seven-year-old while battling her mother, Barbara Evans, she was instead granted a visitation plan as Barbara was given primary custody of the child.

Shortly after wrapping up their court hearing, Jenelle Evans revealed the stipulations of their custody agreement during an interview with E! News and confirmed she will soon have Jace on weekends, holidays, and during the summer.

“I’m not restricted to when my mom says I can have my son anymore,” Jenelle Evans explained to E! News on May 24, “and at the moment that’s all I care about. [I] just want to spend time with my son. He will be home one day but today wasn’t the day, sadly.”

According to Jenelle Evans, who previously had no court-ordered visitation rights to her son, the court hearing between her and her mom was extremely tense and after the judge revealed the final decision, she burst into tears.

She then told her attorney, “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Although Jenelle Evans still does not have custody of her son, she said that the judge wasn’t exactly happy with her mother and her decisions for Jace. In fact, after the women signed their custody agreement papers, Jenelle Evans claimed the judge issued Barbara a stern warning.

“Barbara, you need to start thinking about the child and not yourself in the future,” the judge allegedly said.

Jenelle Evans currently has no plans to rekindle her relationship with her mother and told E! New that she hasn’t talked to Barbara or “even looked” at her since the ruling was made on Wednesday.

“I’m really happy we could to a decision for Jace but it doesn’t change my feelings towards my mom,” Jenelle Evans explained. “She still isn’t giving up my son to me but I will fight again in the future when the time is right.”

“I’m happy but devastated at the same time that I didn’t take it to trial. But in the world of Jenelle, you learn to pick and choose your battles,” she continued.

Once their new agreement goes into effect, Jenelle Evans looks forward to reuniting with Jace after spending five weeks away from her oldest child. As fans may recall, Jenelle Evans took to social media earlier this month to vent about her mother’s decision to keep Jace away from her, even on Mother’s Day.

As for her plans for the future, Jenelle Evans said she will eventually refile custody papers in hopes of one day gaining full custody of Jace but for now, she’s going to enjoy their agreement as is.

“[I will go back] maybe in a year, but I want the judge to see this new order has been in effect and [I’ve] been complying with it no problems,” she admitted.
