‘Sister Wives’ Stars Welcome Baby Boy: Kody Brown’s First Grandchild Has A Name That Rocks

The Sister Wives family has grown by one more, and this new addition might make Kody Brown feel like an old man.

According to People, 21-year-old Sister Wives star Maddie Brown recently welcomed a son with her husband, 30-year-old mining equipment repairman Caleb Brush. The couple’s baby boy was born a few minutes after midnight on May 20, and they named him Axel James Brush. He weighed 8 lbs., 8 oz. and measured at 21 inches in length.

According to the Nameberry website, the name Axel means “father of peace,” and it’s a Scandinavian form of Absalom, one of King David’s sons in the Bible. The name is popular with ’80s rock fans, thanks to Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose, and one of the hair band’s song titles definitely applied to Axel Brush’s birth: “Patience.” Maddie and her family members needed plenty of it while awaiting the baby boy’s arrival. The Sister Wives star reportedly labored for an exhausting 72 hours, which included four painful hours of pushing.

“We’re feeling both excited and exhausted at the same time,” said Maddie and Caleb. “We’re looking forward to having a family. Now that he’s here we excited to grow our family a little bit more and spread our love even more.”

In a TLC video, Caleb Brush talked about his feelings about becoming a father, which he believes is his “calling in life.”

“My emotions were all over the place: excited, exhausted, concerned for her, concerned for Axel. But at the same time, I was crying because I was just in love with this little boy.”

Axel is the first grandchild for polygamist Sister Wives patriarch Kody Brown, 49, and his second wife, Janelle, 48. Kody tries to come off as a young and fun guy by driving a convertible and rocking a long hairstyle that Axl Rose would definitely approve of, but he took the news remarkably well when he found out that he would be becoming a grandfather.

“Yeah!!! You can call me Grandpa!” Kody tweeted last November.

However, Kody and Janelle admit that it will take a little time to get used to being parents and grandparents.

“I think being grandparents hasn’t sunk in yet,” the couple told People. “It’s so fun. I can’t believe how much we love this baby already.”

Janelle previously told the Sister Wives cameras that what she’s looking forward to most about being a grandmother.

“The best part is that we get to do all the fun baby stuff, but we don’t have to stay up at night,” said Janelle.

However, Kody was quick to remind her that he doesn’t get to enjoy any such luxury: He still has to help his fourth wife, 38-year-old Robyn, take care of their one-year-old daughter, Ariella Mae.

Because Janelle has three sister wives, this creates a unique situation for Axel and his parents: They’ll have to come up with four different nicknames for his female grandparents. Maddie Brown has already been thinking about this, and she has a few cute ideas that Janelle, Meri, Robyn, and Christine might like.

“We think it would be super cute to have different names for all the grandmas, like oma, grams or babicka,” she said. “Grandma said differently or in different languages. Ultimately they get to choose what they are called but my dad [Kody] will probably be grandpa.”

Janelle and Kody said that the Brown brood of 18 kids is excited about baby Axel’s arrival, and they fear that Maddie isn’t going to get much rest. All of Axel’s aunts and uncles are eager to meet him, so Maddie and Caleb will likely have a lot of visitors stopping by to start spoiling their little boy rotten.

There’s no word on whether Axel’s birth was filmed by the Sister Wives cameras, and TLC still hasn’t revealed if it plans on renewing the Brown family’s reality series. However, fans should be feeling pretty optimistic about the show’s return: after all, TLC did take the time to film a special birth announcement video for Axel.
