Wii U Launch: Players Will Have 24 Games To Choose From

Nintendo’s Wii U launch will include 24 games, according to Mashable. Among the titles available to gamers on Sunday are Assassin’s Creed III, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition, and the highly anticipated New Super Mario Bros. U.

Although Nintendo is releasing a number of games developed in-house, many of the bigger launch titles are from third party developers. The aforementioned Assassin’s Creed III, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition are just a few of the notable adventures that will be offered to prospective gamers on November 18.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime explained to the Washington Post that the Wii U launches “marks a beginning” for the company.

“[This is] the launch of a very innovative system, a system that will marry new ways to play games, new ways to interact with gaming friends and new ways to engage with a broad range of entertainment,” Fils-Aime explained, adding that the company is more focused on serious gamers this time around.

The Wii U will also feature a brand new storefront that will allow modern gamers to purchase full games digitally.

“We prioritized the eShop because we’re seeing that, first, there’s a segment of consumers that want their games digitally on the system and don’t want the hassle, potentially, of physical discs,” Fils-Aime said.

Nintendo has understandably high hopes for the new console. Last month, the company revealed that it intends to sell 5.5 million units by the end of Q2 2013. In that same time frame, Nintendo expects to move around 22 million games.

Although some analysts believe some gamers will be turned off by the console’s lack of graphical prowess, this probably won’t matter much to shoppers looking for the season’s hottest item.
