Bates Motel returns for its final season and Norman is slowly unraveling into a complete psycho. Season 5 of Bates Motel has an air date of February 20th and the chilling trailer features Norma Bates and what Norman has done with her.

Warning Spoilers for Season 4 below.

In Season 4 of Bates Motel, Norman believes the only way he can be with Norma forever is if they die together. Norman calmly shut all the air vents show that Norma’s room fills with carbon monoxide as she slept. In the failed murder-suicide attempt, Norman is saved by Alex Romero; however Norma wasn’t so lucky and passed away. Romero promises to prove that Norman is responsible; however, he has some problems of his own involving Rebeca.

As Norman gets ready to kill himself with his mother’s gun, he seems to have another psychotic break and sees his mother playing the piano.

So what do we have in store for Bates Motel Season 5?

According to Deadline, writers and executive producers Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse reveal that Bates Motel Season 5 starts two years after the events of Season 4 and Norman is continuing to live a double-life in the community. He continues to have his violent blackouts and visions of his mother. Meanwhile, he manages to adjust to a normal life in White Pine Bay to avoid suspicion.

Dylan and Emma are living their lives away from the madness of White Pine Bay; however, they are unaware of Norma’s death and Norman’s continued descent into madness. Dylan will eventually find himself drawn back due to his brother’s behavior and it is expected that Emma will also try and help her old friend. Meanwhile, Alex Romero, who is portrayed by Nestor Carbonell, is facing time for perjury in relation to what went down with Rebeca last season. It seems he got off easy and still has his mind set on having revenge for Norma’s death.

Season 5 of Bates Motel will have some returning cast members and new additions. Kenny Johnson will return as Caleb Calhoun and will likely continue his relationship with Dylan; however, it is unclear at this point what will go down between the two and their complicated relationship. Rihanna has also been cast as Marion Crane, who fans may be familiar with from the 1960 movie Psycho.

Isabelle McNally of House of Cards will play Madeleine Loomis, who will have a striking resemblance to Norma. TVLine reveals that the character is a “warm and kindhearted woman.” She is reportedly connected to Marion Crane; however not much is known about her role.

Austin Nichols of The Walking Dead will be playing Rihanna’s Marion Crane’s boyfriend Sam Loomis in a reoccurring role in Bates Motel Season 5.

Vera Farmiga will reprise her role as Norma Bates despite being dead. She will continue her role as “Mother” presumably in Norman’s head and seems to have a character of her own. There will be a power struggle between Norman and his mother over who controls the budding psycho.

It will be interesting to see how Dylan reacts to his mother death and whether he suspects his brother playing a role in her death. Brooke Smith will play Sheriff Dana Greene, who is expected to take over Romero’s duties in Season 5.

Bates Motel Season 5 premieres on a Monday with an air date of February 20th, 2017. The fifth and final season is expected to feature 10 episodes. Will Norman get away with murder? It will be interesting to find out in the final season of the long-running series.
