‘Back To The Future’ Star Lea Thompson Afraid To Lose Home To Hurricane Sandy

Michael J ‘s Fox’s Back to the Future co-star Lea Thompson may have attended the Dancing With the Stars taping on Monday, but the star’s mind was on something else at the time.

According to TODAY, the actress, who is currently starring on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth, had every reason to believe that her home on Fire Island, N.Y., had been swept away and likely lost to the megastorm.

Hurricane Sandy’s violent surge had destroyed homes and property in the beach community on Monday.

Even though Thompson’s city was in such a terrible situation, she was not only calm about the situation, but she also appeared to be her usual exuberant self. Why was she not freaking out?

“Well, because it’s hilarious,” she told TODAY. “My husband just paid off a 30-year mortgage in September. I thought this would be just perfect if the house is completely gone!”

The good news is that the actress, who played Marty McFly’s mother and also his girlfriend in the Back to the Future franchise, has flood insurance. However, “You really don’t get that much,” Thompson noted. “It’s sad. I’m mourning my little house on Fire Island.”

Thompson, who was at the taping of Dancing With the Stars on Monday to cheer on Switched at Birth co-star Gilles Marini, is hoping to make it back to the East coast next week to survey the damage at her house.

“I just know that it was completely flooded. It’s just surreal. My kids grew up there.”
