Michelle Obama Implies To Oprah: Hope Lost As Trump Takes Over White House? [Video]

Michelle Obama sat down with Oprah for a farewell interview, and she tells the talk show queen that for the first time, she knows “what not having hope feels like.” Not only did Michelle convey to Oprah that she now knows what a lack of hope feels like, but she praised her husband, President Obama, for building up hope for Americans. This is the hope that she feels will be lost when he leaves office.

This is the same Michelle Obama who was verbally bashed years back when Barack Obama was first elected to the office of the president. This was when Michelle offered the flippant reveal of how the election of Barack Obama marked “the first time in my adult life I am really proud of my country.” Michelle said she felt this pride at the time because with the election of her husband she knew that “hope was finally making a comeback.”

Now with this latest Michelle Obama reveal to Oprah, which seems to indicate she’s feeling rather hopeless for the future of this country, it is clear she sees her husband’s legacy much differently than the critics do. Michelle feels that one of her husband’s greatest achievements was installing that feeling of hope among Americans, which was the platform he ran for office on. While not mentioning Trump by name, Michelle implied to Oprah that many in this country have lost that hope with Trump making his way into the Oval Office, reports Politico.

Michelle’s own words suggest that there is no love lost for Donald Trump when it comes to her feelings about the president-elect. This was obvious with the gloomy picture Michelle painted for Oprah about the future with the Trump administration taking over the White House. At one point during the Oprah interview, she turns to her host and with the demeanor one might display during a wake of a close friend asks, “What else do you have if you don’t have hope?”

The First Lady also told Oprah that the word “hope” wasn’t just a slogan for her husband that he used to gather up the votes, reports Us Magazine. Michelle talked like a true politician while in Oprah’s company, so it appears that during her husband’s two terms she may have picked up some pointers. The First Lady was able to get her digs into Trump without so much as a whisper of his name.

During this interview with Oprah, she used the term “grown-up” as a way of describing a presidential figure like her husband. This was the second time she’s thrown out this term when alluding to a comparison between Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

According to Michelle Obama, people want a grown-up in the White House who can calm their fears in a time of crisis and who can point the people of the nation in the direction of looking at a prosperous future. Back in September when Michelle spoke to a group in Pittsburg, while plugging Hillary Clinton for president, she also alluded to Trump’s behavior as not being the behavior of a grown-up. Again, this is the same woman who didn’t feel pride in the country as an adult until the masses elected her husband, Newsweek reported in an archived article.

Her words at the time seem to suggest Trump acted childlike when she said, “A president cannot just pop off or lash out. We need a grown-up in the White House.” Again she didn’t so much as whisper Trump’s name, but the wink she gave the crowd seemed to express there was a private joke between Michelle and the people gathered before her.

The First Lady did have some words of wisdom to share with Oprah about becoming the president of this nation; after all, Michelle has watched her husband in the White House for the past eight years. She said that the “presidency doesn’t change who you are, it reveals who you are.” If you are interested in seeing Oprah’s interview with the First Lady, tune into CBS This Morning this coming Monday, December 19. “Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House – an Oprah Winfrey Special” is the title of this segment.
