‘Younger’ Hilary Duff Is ‘Going To Freak Out’ About The Truth

While some think Hilary Duff freaked out over the criticism she recently received over kissing her four-year-old son, Luca, on the lips during a recent Disneyland visit, that’s nothing compared to what’s planned for Duff’s Younger character. As Hilary opens up about that kiss and more, she spills some teasers for the tense next episode of Younger, which airs on TV Land. Duff, who plays Kelsey Peters on the series, says her Younger character doesn’t take the news very well when Liza (Sutton Foster) reveals the truth and that’s just one twist fans can expect in the coming episodes of Younger.

When Younger left off, Liza had just spilled the beans, telling her best friend, Kelsey, that she’s not quite as young as she thinks she is, but the episode ended, before Duff’s character could respond. Now, talking to Variety, Hilary opens up about that scene and about what Younger fans can expect, when it picks up in the show’s next episode. Duff says she feels that having the characters feeling distanced from each other will contribute to the emotional reaction from Kelsey, when Younger picks back up.

“I think she’s going to freak out… I think it’s going to be really hard for her to accept. It’s going to be tough,” says Ms. Duff.

Hilary says it isn’t just the matter of a friend keeping a secret as big as the one Liza had been hiding, but there’s a greater betrayal at work. When she realizes the truth, Hilary says her Younger character realizes the book deal was made behind her back, deliberately to keep the secret. The fact that Liza’s secret may now threaten Kelsey’s career will cut deeper than it might otherwise have done.

Asked about how this will affect the friendship between Kelsey and Liza, Duff says the two Younger characters will necessarily be driven apart, as each tries to deal with the aftermath, but Hilary also feels that the women are too close to throw away their friendship altogether. The Younger star says the two ladies will find their way back to each other, sooner or later.

“I’d like to see her acquire some books that are total shoo-in successes,” Duff says of her own Younger character’s development. “I think she’s really struggling with her imprint. She’s trying to take chances, but everything has been somewhat of a disaster. I’d like to see her have some serious success.”

Hilary Duff Fires Back At “Warped Minds” Of Online Critics

A day at Disneyland turned into a public nightmare, when Hilary Duff shared a photo of herself kissing son, Luca, on the lips in front of the It’s a Small World attraction, according to US Weekly. Duff received mixed responses, once the picture was posted to Instagram. While many fans saw an innocent and adorable mother/son moment, some fans took offense and made a point of criticizing Duff for acting inappropriately toward her son.

The backlash gained so much steam with new social media users continually adding their criticism that Hilary eventually felt compelled to respond.

“For anyone commenting that a kiss on the lips with my four-year-old is ‘inappropriate’ go ahead and click a quick unfollow with your warped minds and judgment,” wrote Duff.

Hilary wasn’t alone to fend for herself. Many of the Younger actress’ fans jumped to her defense, suggesting that those seeing something other than an innocent kiss were the ones with the problems.

This wasn’t the first time Duff has faced mom shaming over a public incident. One particular incident involved Luca throwing a temper tantrum, while Hilary took him to the hairdresser. As she later explained, when photos of the crying child surfaced, Luca hates haircuts and throws tantrums every time they get to the hairdressing studio.

“It’s the most joyous thing you’ll do and also the most challenging,” Ms. Duff said of parenting. “I put so much pressure on myself to do everything right, and so do all mothers. We think we should have all the answers — we need to breastfeed perfectly or discipline perfectly — but there are challenges every day.”
