Matthew McConaughey Confesses To His Nude Bongo Playing Arrest
In the upcoming adventure, Gold, Matthew McConaughey plays one-half of a team, which heads into the jungles of Indonesia in search of treasure, but it wasn’t a fictional adventure that Matthew recently opened up about. The actor reveals his own true life experience with the unusual, when he shares that a bit of nude drum playing ended with him getting thrown into jail. A scary adventure of its own. McConaughey also shares that his life has taken a wondrous turn with his wife, Camila Alves, who, he says, has kept him completely spellbound.
Gold Star Matthew McConaughey Shares Details About His Nude Bongo Session
In gearing up to promote his latest adventure flick, Gold, Matthew McConaughey opened up about an incident that earned him a criminal record and an embarrassing, if not wildly entertaining, story to tell, according to Yahoo Movies. The incident occurred 17 years ago, just around the time Matthew was making The Newton Boys.
It was a warm, October night in Austin, Texas, when McConaughey’s neighbors called the police, who arrived to find Matthew sitting nude in his Meadowbrook Drive apartment, playing his bongos. It was 3:00 a.m. and McConaughey had all of his windows open, which contributed to the noise disturbance, leading to his arrest. When police found him nude and dancing in his apartment, they arrested him for marijuana possession and for possessing related paraphernalia, as well as for resisting transportation to the police station.
“What’s wrong with beating on your drums in your birthday suit?” 47-year-old McConaughey now says of the incident.
Even now, the Gold star says he has no regrets. He does recall that, upon being recognized by the arresting officers, their expressions betrayed their surprise and possibly their delight at being able to bring in a big Hollywood A-lister. While earning a criminal record wasn’t on his bucket list, Matthew says he doesn’t feel there was a valuable lesson to be learned, except, perhaps, to keep the window shut.
“But what’s the lesson? Shut the window that has the beautiful scent of jasmine blowing in because it’s two in the morning and you might wake a neighbour.”
McConaughey says his first call was to his mother, though even that shamed him because he says she didn’t raise a criminal. Ultimately, the Gold star spent nine hours in jail and paid a small, $50 fine for disturbing the peace.
Camila Alves Keeps Gold‘s Matthew McConaughey Under Her Spell
Matthew also took a moment to reflect on his life with wife Camila Alves, first recalling the first time he saw Camila and, according to Hello, the moment the two of them fell in love. McConaughey says it all started when he was out at a nightclub with friends when Alves walked by their table. The Gold actor says he was stunned by her beauty and her grace in that moment, but he knew he would have to approach her with his most refined manner.
As soon as she caught my eye, a little voice goes in my head: ‘This is not the kind of woman you call across the room. Boy, get your a— out of that chair.’ That was a big moment,” explained the Gold actor. “You can’t dial up that kind of woman. I have been very faithful with my wife, very selfishly. I like being under her spell. I don’t want to break that spell.”
Camila and Matthew dated for six years, before getting married in 2012. Since that time, they have expanded their family to include 6-year-old Vida, 8-year-old Levi, and 3-year-old Livingston.
McConaughey says they couldn’t be a happier family. The children are all healthy and Matthew and Camila have a great respect for each other with the Gold actor boasting that neither tries to change the other.
There’s just one problem Mr. McConaughey and Ms. Alves have come across, now that Christmas is drawing near.
“One of my children wants a unicorn. She’s been wanting a unicorn each Christmas and I haven’t been able to find it yet, but I’m still looking,” says Matthew.
“So that’s not the easiest purchase.”
