‘Arrow’ Season 5: Will Felicity Take Revenge On Oliver For Billy’s Death In Episode 10 [Spoilers]

Arrow Season 5 midseason finale left Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) bereft as her boyfriend, Billy (guest star Tyler Ritter), was killed by her ex-lover, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). Will she be plotting revenge against Oliver when Arrow Season 5 returns in January?

When Oliver broke the news to Felicity that her boyfriend was dead and he had killed him, she was quick to see Prometheus hand in it, and not for a moment she accused her ex of murdering Billy.

Prometheus may have staged the whole thing by dressing up Billy in his dark costume, duct taping his mouth and putting a weapon in his hand, but it was Oliver’s arrows that killed him. And one cannot blame Felicity if she starts seeing Oliver as the murderer and plot his downfall. But that is not what is going to happen, although Felicity is going on a darker journey in the next installment of Arrow Season 5.

She is not going to blame Oliver for Billy’s death, Wendy Mericle, showrunner of Arrow, told TV Line. Felicity is grieving, but her heart is broken for Oliver as well. In the winter finale of Season 5, “What We Leave Behind,” Billy’s death had left Oliver also devastated. Moreover, he was guilt-ridden, starting to believe Prometheus words that whoever he comes in contact with dies.

One thing Felicity is not going to do, I can tell you for sure, is blame Oliver. She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation. Her heart is broken in that last moment for Oliver and for Malone and for herself.

For Felicity, Prometheus and only Prometheus is the culprit. And in the second half of Arrow Season 5, she will be seen entering a darker phase of her life to hunt the masked madman. Mericle said that they are taking Felicity to a darker place this season. And Billy’s death has given them a perfect reason to explore the character’s darker side.

This season we have said we’re going to take her to a darker place, and you’re seeing the genesis of the reason why, right here [Billy’s death].

The path that Felicity would take to make Prometheus pay for his crimes is unlikely to be morally acceptable, and she will be taking help of people who are not part of her gang, according to Mericle. And because of her new contacts, the darker version of Felicity might end up distancing herself from Oliver and the gang.

[She] is going to meet some people who are both a bit tied to her past but also very much tied to this new future she’s contemplating, and that’s going to draw her away from the team and lead her to do some things that are pretty morally questionable.

Billy’s death was not the only shocking twist that Arrow Season 5 midseason finale delivered. A fan-favorite character was resurrected in the closing moments. When a remorseful Oliver returned to his Arrow Cave, he saw Laurel (Katie Cassidy), who died in Season 4, waiting for him. “Hello, Ollie,” she said, making Oliver freeze in utter shock. Episode 10, “Who Are You,” is most likely to reveal whether Laurel is really alive or Green Arrow is hallucinating.

After winter finale, Amell took to Facebook to speak about Black Canary’s return. He said, as quoted by TV Line, there is going to be a “vetting process” to determine if it is really Laurel or not.

People don’t just come back from the dead. Obviously there will be some sort of vetting process [to determine if it’s really her]. We delve into that when we come back in the New Year.

He also hinted that the upcoming episodes are going to raise the stake for Prometheus. Winter finale provided some clues to the masked villain’s identity, but he still continues to remain shrouded in mystery. The episode revealed that he is the son of the man — one of the names on The List — who Green Arrow had killed in Season 1. It is likely that he might get completely unmasked in the second half of Arrow Season 5.

Arrow Season 5 returns with Episode 10, titled “Who Are You,” on January 25.
