Amber Heard spoke out against domestic abuse through an open letter published in the December issue of Porter magazine.

Amber spoke out against domestic violence in the letter and she described the pain that victims of domestic violence endure. Heard revealed previously that she was also a victim of domestic violence. Though she does not mention her former husband Johnny Depp in the letter, her words clearly pointed to her experiences while she was still married to Depp. A bold move for Heard considering that it might put her in an awkward situation with her ex-husband’s lawyers.

Amber also opened up a bit about her experience with domestic abuse just a month ago amid an ongoing divorce settlement between the former couple. The divorce agreement signed by Johnny and Amber has a confidentiality clause which dictates that Amber should not talk about Depp, meaning she should not reveal any details about his private life.

“I never felt anyone would or could rescue me, so naturally I resented the label of victim,” Amber stated in the letter.

As earlier reported, Heard was supposed to receive $6.8 million from Depp as agreed as part of the divorce settlement. Amber claimed that she would donate the entire amount to charities. The deal might be jeopardized if Depp’s lawyers feel that the open letter regarding domestic violence was in violation of the agreement.

In the letter, Amber talked about how much she hated being labeled a victim. She also stated that people should not suffer in silence and her agenda with the letter was also to encourage women from all over the world to speak up about their experiences.

“You are not alone. You may have suffered alone behind closed doors, but you are not alone. You need to know that. I want to remind you of your strength, a strength that has been multiplied by the number of women who stand silently behind you—a truth that allowed me to break down the doors I once found myself behind,” the actress wrote in the letter.

Heard also pointed out that most times when a woman speaks up about the injustices and suffering that she has gone through, she is often met by shame, hostility, and skepticism. She added that revealing such things takes a lot of strength and is often never easy.

The Magic Mike actress gave her own point of view regarding the difficult time that she experienced. She was careful enough not to mention names, being aware of the impact that it would have based on the non-disclosure clause as part of the divorce agreement. She stated that she was raised to be self-reliant and independent. Heard has been actively engaged in a campaign against domestic violence and the letter being published in this month’s issue of Porter magazine is part of the ongoing campaign.

Heard’s increased focus on the campaign is linked to the claims that she was subjected to a similar experience throughout her marriage to Johnny Depp. Not long after filing for divorce, Heard also filed a restraining order against Depp claiming that she was being abused physically and verbally. There were also photos of her with some bruises on her skin. This led to a lot of speculation, with some people claiming that she did not have bruises a few days after she filed for divorce.

Other claims suggested that Amber filed the domestic violence report because she did not get spousal support from Depp but then again those were just speculative claims from parties taking sides on the matter. There is still very little information available on the matter but nevertheless, Heard is determined to help those who might be facing or have faced domestic violence by encouraging them through the words in her letter.
