Johnny Depp Refuses To Pay Divorce Settlement, Says Amber Heard Violated Agreement, Speaking Publicly About Domestic Violence

The divorce settlement between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has fallen apart. A $6.8 million settlement was reached when the Hollywood couple decided to call it quits, but now the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is refusing to pay citing a breach of contract.

According to the Daily Mail, Depp is furious over public comments his former wife made over domestic violence. The 30-year-old actress stirred the hornet’s nest when she penned a letter in the December issue of Porter, a fashion magazine. The Rum Diary actress wrote on female empowerment and domestic violence. Even though she does not mention Johnny Depp by name, it is easy to glean that she is talking from her own personal experience. In the letter, Heard empathizes with those going through similar difficulties.

“You may have suffered alone behind closed doors, but you are not alone. You need to know that. I want to remind you of your strength, a strength that has been multiplied by the number of women who stand silently behind you—a truth that allowed me to break down the doors I once found myself behind.”

The Danish Girl actress who is yet to finalize her divorce from Johnny Depp encouraged women to be strong, hold their heads up high and refuse to be called victims.

“When a woman comes forward to speak out about injustice on her suffering, instead of aid, respect, and support, she will be met with hostility, skepticism and shame. Her motives will be questioned and her truth ignored. I was raised to be independent and self-reliant. I was never given nor wanted the burden of dependency. I never felt like anyone would or could rescue me, so naturally, I resented the label of ‘victim.'”

Heard who is billed to star in the highly-anticipated Justice League movie in 2017 also spoke out against domestic violence for the GirlGaze project last month. The 30-year-old actress who fought to hold back tears said abuse was always devastating when it came from someone that was loved. The actress, who starred alongside Kevin Costner in 3 Days to Kill, encouraged women enduring domestic violence to make their voices heard and not cower in fear.

According to People, Amber Heard filed for divorce from Depp in May after he allegedly pulled her hair and hit her with a cell phone. The 30-year-old actress claimed the Edward Scissorhands actor was abusive all through their 15-month old marriage. In the documents, she chronicled two separate incidents when Depp physically abused her, during those times she suffered a black eye and the cops were called.

The Depp legal team in response had accused Heard of trying to force the actor to pay spousal support. Johnny Depp is worth a reported $400 million, while Heard’s net worth sits around $9 million. An LAPD spokesperson at the time of the May incident said there was no evidence that a crime had occurred.

Heard had promised to donate the $6.8 million settlement to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and American Civil Liberties Union. Depp had made an initial payment of $100,000, but according to his legal team, the millions in payment have been stonewalled because Heard breached the confidentiality clause reached as part of the deal by talking publicly about domestic violence. Depp’s lawyers argued that even though the actress did not mention her former husband in the letter or video, no one is in doubt about who she is talking about.

Heard’s legal team hit back by filing a “Request for Order” asking the Los Angeles Superior Court to take action against the Alice in Wonderland actor who for months had not met all obligations proposed by the court. The document claimed that Depp had not allowed Heard into their $10 million home in West Hollywood to retrieve her personal property. They also claimed he had failed to transfer the title of a Range Rover vehicle and refused to meet with his former wife to discuss how “furniture and furnishings” would be dispersed.

In a declaration attached to the document, Heard slammed Depp for leaking stories to the press calling her a “gold-digger” and boasting that she settled for less than an earlier reported sum. The actress also pointed out that the Black Mass actor had failed to make the first installment of “equalization payments” since August 31.

It’s been bad recently for Johnny Deep at the movies with Alice Through the Looking Glass, Mortdecai, and Transendence bombing at the box office.
