‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Trailer: 3 Things You Might Have Missed From The HBO Promo [Spoilers]

Fans got their first official peek at Game of Thrones Season 7 courtesy of HBO’s trailer for their 2017 content. It was the briefest of glimpses, but it was enough to set Game of Thrones fans ablaze, in anticipation of more. You can watch the trailer for yourself below.

With a longer than usual wait between seasons, fans will have to make the most of the three brief glimpses they got of Sansa, Arya, and Jon Snow in HBO’s trailer. After careful examination, here are three things you might have missed from your first glimpse of the Stark siblings, in Game of Thrones Season 7.

Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7.

No. 1: Arya is on a horse.

At first glance, there is nothing particularly telling about seeing Arya on horseback. However, Arya (Maisie Williams) has rarely been seen taking any mode of transportation. She tends to favor walking. The biggest question this brings up is where exactly she got the horse, and for that matter, her flashy new Northern attire.

Arya was last seen in the Season 6 finale (“The Winds of Winter”) taking her revenge against Walder Frey (David Bradley). The man who had helped carry out the Red Wedding, an atrocity that viciously claimed the lives of Arya’s mother Catelyn (Michelle Fairley), Arya’s older brother Robb (Richard Madden), his wife Talisa (Oona Chaplin), and their unborn child.

It is possible that Arya took one of the Frey’s horses and some of their clothes to change into for her journey to Winterfell. According to Reddit user maureencreates’ recompiled version of awayforthelads’ alleged Season 7 plot leak on Reddit, Arya is not finished with the Freys when Season 7 begins.

She will supposedly don the face of Walder Frey, and while impersonating him, hold a feast with the purpose of finishing off the rest of Frey’s sons by poisoning them. The alleged plot leak specifies that Arya will spare the women of House Frey.

No. 2: Sansa is shown in the godswood.

Like Arya being on a horse, Sansa (Sophie Turner) being in the godswood of Winterfell, is not especially telling. What is interesting about it is that is where Sansa shared a crucial scene with Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) in the Season 6 finale.

Sansa treated the site as a place of sanctuary. In “The Winds of Winter” she seemed to be reflecting on her own maturation, the outcome of the battle for Winterfell, and the upcoming vote for who would rule Winterfell.

Having been passed over in favor of Jon Snow, questions arise. Is Sansa contemplating her next move, and is Littlefinger nearby when she is? The godswood’s lack of foot traffic makes it the perfect place to draw up clandestine plans without prying eyes, or ears.

Will Sansa be plotting something with Littlefinger in Season 7, perhaps to betray Jon Snow? According to the alleged Season 7 plot leak on Reddit, the answer is “no.”

Sansa will supposedly dispatch Littlefinger, after he tries to exploit the tension between her, and a recently returned, Arya. The latter spoiler was confirmed by Watchers on the Wall.

No. 3: Jon’s glance with an identified redhead.

This is one of those blinked-and-you-missed-it clues from the sliver of Game of Thrones Season 7 footage. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is seen turning to look at someone, with whom he casts a contemplative glance.

If you look at the trailer carefully, you will see several strands of what appears to be long, red hair in the right-hand corner of the frame. The only major female redheads currently on Game of Thrones are Sansa and Melisandre (Carice van Houten).

It would seem highly unlikely that the Red Priestess would chance a return to Winterfell. Jon exiled her in the Season 6 finale, promising her certain death if she ever stepped foot in the North again.

It makes the most sense that it is Sansa. Jon and his sister could be discussing any number of things, from his trip to meet Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). Or their supposed disagreement on how to handle the Northern houses, which comes via the alleged Season 7 Reddit plot leak.

A wild card candidate is a mysterious character known only as the “Northern girl.” Back in October, fan site Watchers on the Wall reported that Megan Parkinson had been cast in the role. Parkinson is a redhead and leaked set photos from The Daily Mail had sent speculation swirling as to who she was playing.

Could she be the redhead Jon is talking to? Well, Parkinson’s crimson tresses are a lighter shade of red than the flowing locks seen in the HBO trailer. Of course, with Game of Thrones’ knack for filtering their cinematography, Parkinson’s hair could film darker than untouched photographs suggest.

Find out if any of these three things from the HBO trailer mean anything when Game of Thrones Season 7 returns next summer on HBO.
