Kate Middleton Wears Princess Diana’s Tiara For Portrait With Queen And Camilla

In the latest Kate Middleton news, Duchess Kate, the Queen, and Camilla pulled out all the stops for a “stunning new portrait” at Buckingham Palace. The three royal women were there “with their princes” for the annual diplomatic reception, and posed for the unusual portrait before the official part of the reception got underway. Life & Style news writes that Kate’s tiara in the pic was one that Princess Diana returned to the royals after her divorce from Prince Charles.

The gorgeous photo was unexpected because it’s not traditional for the royal family to release “an official portrait of the family” when they are attending a diplomatic function. Normally, the palace simply allow news photos of the Queen, Prince Philip, and the other royals as they arrive in their “chauffeur-driven cars.” A “posed” photo from inside Buckingham Palace during an event like the reception is definitely breaking with tradition.

Three generations of married royal couples are represented in the photo. Prince William, 34, and his wife Kate Middleton, 34, stand on the Queen’s left; Prince Charles, 68, and Camilla, 69, are on her right; while the Queen, 90, with Prince Philip, 95, were in “pride of place at the centre of the group.”

While royal fans are always delighted to see news of princes and princesses, some are having a hard time accepting that Charles is now married to Camilla instead of the late Princess Diana. One tweeted that he can’t get used to seeing Camilla in the pictures along with Diana’s son William and his wife Kate Middleton.

The Duchesses of Cambridge and of Cornwall “dazzled” with their wardrobe and jewelry, and they wore sparkling tiaras to rival Her Majesty’s own tiara full of brilliant diamonds. Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, wore a really special tiara for the occasion. As Prince William’s wife, she clearly wanted to pay “homage to the late Princess Diana,” William’s mother.

Kate wore the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, one of Diana’s “most prized possessions,” and a news making tiara in itself. People magazine explains that Middleton’s tiara for the occasion actually dates from 1913 or 1914 when Queen Mary commissioned it as a replica to one owned by her grandmother, the Duchess of Cambridge, back in the early 18th century. Kate must love the tiara as much as Diana did since she also wore it to the reception last year, according to Hello Magazine.

“It’s a beautiful pearl and diamond” tiara that sparkled with light from the chandeliers. Kate hardly ever wears a tiara, and has only appeared in public five times with one of the jeweled ornaments. The famous first time Middleton wore a tiara was at her own wedding, and on that occasion she gave a “stunning sartorial display” in the Cartier Halo tiara that originally belonged to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen mother.

Camilla and the Queen added their own sparkle to the ensemble photo. Royal news reports described the Her Majesty’s headpiece as encrusted with diamonds and sapphires to match her necklace, and Camilla’s gown as embroidered with pearls reflecting the pearl choker clasped around her throat. Kate didn’t add any jewelry except a single bracelet and a “pair of glittery earrings.”

Her Majesty wore a “white gown and a blue ceremonial sash” and Camilla was also in white with a similar, narrower sash, but the Kate Middleton news is that the young Duchess glowed in an “ethereal” red gown from Jenny Packham. The gown’s defined, “waist-cinching” lines emphasized Kate’s youth as she stood next to her husband with her royal in laws. As Hollywood Life reports, Kate is known to “re-wear her glamorous ensembles,” and the beautiful red gown is the one she first wore at last October’s state banquet. It looked as stunning on the Duchess now as it did on its first outing.

Middleton knows how to dress glamorously and royally, but Kate news is filled with reports of how comfortable the Duchess is in simpler clothes as she goes about her royal duties. On a visit to a family center, Kate looked lovely in a simple black dress with no jewelry.

The reception is big news since it’s the “main diplomatic social event of the year” in England and the biggest Buckingham Palace gathering. The portrait of Her Majesty and the next heirs to the British throne was unexpected, but royal watchers were thrilled to see it. They especially loved seeing Kate Middleton wearing a tiara.
