Kesha Talks Anxiety And Depression Battle: Inspired To Make New Music?
Kesha opened up about her battle with anxiety and depression and now feels that she can help others who are struggling through a difficult time. The singer finally recognized the “power of my voice.” When can we expect new music?
Kesha has not released new music since her 2012 album Warrior. The singer has spoken out about suffering from anxiety and depression in the past, as well as discussing her struggle with an eating disorder. Now, she is talking about her mental illness.
Kesha will be honored at the annual Billboard Woman of the Year luncheon and was featured in the special Billboard issue.
“I’ve battled a lot of things, including anxiety and depression.
Finding the strength to come forward about those things is not easy. But maybe, by telling my story, I can help someone else going through tough times.”
In 2014, the 29-year-old pop star sued her longtime producer and label executive Lukas “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. Kesha accused Dr. Luke of drugging and raping her, as well as physically, emotionally, and verbally abusing her for years.
Dr. Luke vehemently denied all of the singer’s accusations and is countersuing for defamation and breach of contract.
Fellow pop stars like Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, and Lady Gaga have reached out to Kesha to show their support.
Adele even spoke out in solidarity at a U.K. awards show, according to Time.
“I’d also like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.”
Later, Kesha expressed her gratitude for the support and kind wishes she received.
“Other entertainers who knowingly put their own careers at stake by supporting me, I will be forever grateful.”
“All I ever wanted was to be able to make music without being afraid, scared, or abused. This case has never been about a renegotiation of my record contract … I would be willing to work with Sony if they do the right thing and break all ties that bind me to my abuser.”
Kesha was flattered to have Adele’s support.
“Adele is nothing but class. She reached out to me privately and publicly in the middle of winning her own award. What a beautiful soul.”
People exclusively reported that Kesha was working on writing and recording new music back in October. She and her team hope to drop a full-length album in early 2017.

The singer told Billboard that she was working closely with her friend Wrabel. The new music is mostly inspired by her ups and downs and is intended to “showcase my vulnerabilities as a strength and not a weakness.”
“In the past, I always felt like I was trying to prove something. Now, I’m writing what I want to share with the world, rather than trying to give the world what it wants. For better or worse, I’m just me. I’ve grown into an adult woman who realizes the power of my voice.”
As for her legal troubles, Kesha’s abuse claims were dismissed by a New York Supreme Court judge back in April.
However, Kesha and her legal team are currently working on appealing the order.
Kesha will be honored this Friday in New York City at Billboard’s Woman of the Year luncheon, along with Madonna, Shania Twain, Andra Day, and other deserving women.
