‘Titanfall 2’ Free Trial Starts Wednesday With Release Of Free ‘Angel City’ Map

PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC owners who missed out on the Titanfall 2 Black Friday deals get a chance to try the game for free. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment announced a free multiplayer trial for the first-person shooter, with EA Access and Origin Access subscribers getting it first on Wednesday. This is timed with the release of the free remastered Angel City map.

The Titanfall 2 multiplayer will be available as a free download to EA Access subscribers on the Xbox One and Origin Access servers on the PC starting Wednesday, November 30. Non-subscribers on both platforms, plus PlayStation 4 owners, will then get to join in starting on Friday, December 2.

Unfortunately, the free trial will only be available through Sunday, December 4. This gives latecomers only a couple of days to try the game’s multiplayer out. The good news is they will have access to the full multiplayer portion of the game during that time. This includes all maps, modes, weapons, and everything else. As a bonus, all progress earned during the free multiplayer trial will carry over if you decide to purchase the full game.

This is a first for Electronic Arts this generation. The publisher has typically made free trials available only to EA Access and Origin Access subscribers and only for 10 hours or less depending on the title. While the single-player portion won’t be available, all of the new and existing players will gain access to the Angel City’s Most Wanted DLC.

The add-on brings the remastered Angel City map from the original Titanfall, which will also go live on December 3. While it will only be available to those that pre-ordered the game initially, all other players will gain access on December 3. Additionally, players that do not have the DLC for the first couple of days can still play the new map by joining a Network, Titanfall 2‘s in-game version of LFG (Looking for Group).

Titanfall 2 owners who do have access to the Angel City’s Most Wanted DLC will be able to bring buddies in the same network into an Angel City 24/7 playlist, as explained in this Twitter video post from Respawn Entertainment.

In addition to the new map, the free DLC will introduce the B3 Wingman Elite high caliber revolver as a new unlockable item. There is also a new Pilot Execution skill called “Inner Pieces” plus the following new kits to customize your Titan, per a blog post from the official Titanfall 2 website.

  • Ion: Refraction Lens – Splitter Rifle splits 5 ways
  • Scorch: Scorched Earth – Flame Core ignites the ground, leaving thermite in its wake
  • Northstar: Threat Optics – Enemies are highlighted while zooming in
  • Tone: Burst Loader – Aiming allows the 40mm to store up to 3 shots to burst fire
  • Legion: Hidden Compartment – Power Shot has two charges
  • Ronin: Phase Reflex – When doomed, Ronin phases out of danger

Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have recently touted the fact the shooter will not charge for DLC. That doesn’t mean there won’t be the option to make microtransaction purchases, however. The Angel City’s Most Wanted DLC also introduces “Prime Titans.”

“These all new chassis change the shape of the Ion and Scorch Titans, also unlocking new sound effects and a devastating new execution.”

There will be a new Nose Art pack available for purchase along with a callsign pack, camo pack, and Nitro Scorch pack. There’s also a Deluxe Upgrade pack that includes the above plus Excalibur Chrome Warpaints and Thunderbird Nose Arts for every Titan, and Splinter Ocean and Quantum Ocean Camos for every Titan, Pilot, and weapon.
