Who Won ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Tuesday Night? Mirrorball Trophy Winner Revealed During Holiday Themed Season Finale [Spoilers]

ABC decked out the Grove LA for a holiday-themed Dancing with the Stars season finale on Tuesday night and what a magical night it was.

After 11 weeks of competition, the three finalists — Calvin and Lindsay, Laurie and Val, and James and Sharna — performed their last dances before host Tom Bergeron revealed who won the Season 23 Mirrorball trophy. But before winning couple was announced, viewers were entertained with musical performances and dancing on a stage surrounded by holiday glitz and glamour.

Find out who won the Mirrorball trophy below along with photos and video highlights on Tuesday night’s Dancing with the Stars finale.

Warning: Dancing with the Stars season finale spoilers ahead.

Tuesday night’s finale kicked off with an opening number performed by all 13 of this season’s couples, followed by special performances by Andy Grammer, Vanilla Ice, and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.

A dance routine to Bruno Mars’ “24K” that featured Season 23 contestants Ryan Lochte, Calvin Johnson, James Hinchcliffe, and a number of pro-dancers received a big round of applause from not only the audience but from co-host Erin Andrews who said the all-male performance was a “dream come true.”

Before the three finalists performed their final dance of the season, fans were treated to a holiday performance choreographed by Mandy Moore.

ABC promised that the performance would be one fans shouldn’t miss and they were right. Complete with falling snow, twinkling lights, and holiday decor, it was a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Final Dances

Before the winner was announced, all three couples performed their “24-Hour Fusion Challenge” dances — they all had less than 24 hours to prepare for the dance and it was an important one.

Their scores from the Fusion dances were combined with the judges’ scores and fans’ votes from Monday night’s performances. Last night, Laurie and Val topped the leaderboard (78), followed by James and Sharna (77), and Calvin and Lindsay (75)

Here’s how all three of the finalists scored in the ’24 Hour Fusion’ competition:

  • Calvin Johnson, Jr. and Lindsay Arnold — (40) 10-10-10-10
  • Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy — (40) 10-10-10-10
  • James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess — (40) 10-10-10-10

So, who won the Dancing with the Stars Mirrorball trophy this season and were the predictions right – did host Tom Bergeron announce that Olympic champion Laurie Hernandez was the winner?

Early in the season, Las Vegas Oddsmaker Bovada favored Laurie and Val to win 4-1, but also said that she would be battling Amber Rose, Vanilla Ice, and Calvin Johnson, Jr. for the top spot. Both Amber Rose and Vanilla Ice were eliminated early in the season, but Calvin made it the season finale.

And then there’s James Hinchcliffe, the Indy Car driver who quickly became a top contender this season. The Indianapolis Star reports that during one of James’ performances, judge Carrie Ann Inaba called Hinchcliffe the “miracle man of Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars.” And who can forget when Julianne Hough called James the best male dancer in the history of the show.

Was the kudos from judges enough to give James the win and shock viewers who thought Laurie would walk away with the Mirrorball trophy? Or did Calvin come from behind and win the iconic trophy this season?

With just moments to go at the end of Tuesday night’s two-hour Dancing with the Stars season finale, co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews took to the stage at The Grove to reveal the name of the couple who won the Mirrorball Trophy.

With three perfect scores given to all three couples for their Fusion Challenge dances, it was clear that all three contestants were winners this season. However, only one couple could be crowned the winner.

In third place was Calvin and Lindsay, and in second place — James and Sharna.

It turned out that the oddsmakers turned out to be correct — Laurie Hernandez and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy were crowned the Dancing with the Stars Season 23 winners.

And fans of the Olympic gymnast got another big treat — Tom Bergeron announced that Laurie would be joining the upcoming Dancing with the Stars: Live! We Came to Dance tour this winter.

Did you expect Laurie and Val to win or were you rooting for James or Calvin to take home the Mirrorball trophy?
