Bella Hadid Didn’t Support Gigi Hadid, The Weeknd At The 2016 AMAs: Where Was She?

Fans expected Bella Hadid to show some support for older sister Gigi Hadid at the 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday night (Nov. 20). After all, it was Gigi’s first hosting gig. Also, there was her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd, who was performing his hit single for the first time.

Viewers would have liked to have seen Bella and Gigi Hadid on the red carpet together. They were also curious to see if she would have interacted with The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. But Bella Hadid was a no-show at the American Music Awards. The model, who split from her pop star boyfriend earlier this month, opted to stay home and take selfies on Snapchat, according to a report via the Daily Mail.

Her mirrored selfie had a striking resemblance to The Weeknd’s iced glass stage set where he opened his show with his new single “Starboy,” which was well-received by the audience inside the Microsoft Theatre.

Earlier on that day, Bella looked rather glum as she headed out on the streets of New York in a head-to-toe black ensemble. Bella was spotted wearing a hooded sweatshirt with black leggings, black socks, and black sneakers. She topped off her monochrome look with dark sunglasses and a black handbag.

The model and the R&B singer split earlier this month after they could not find time for each other in their hectic schedules. The 20-year-old is reportedly distraught over the news, as the 26-year-old artist is “the love of her life.”

The two started dating in April of last year when the model was featured on the album artwork for his multi-platinum selling album, Beauty Behind The Madness. Hadid also made an appearance in his video for his single, “In The Night.”

Bella is set to cross paths with The Weeknd yet again. She will follow in Gigi’s footsteps when she makes her first appearance in the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which is set in Paris this year. The high-profile event will include the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio, Jasmine Tookes, Lily Aldridge, and of course, Gigi Hadid.

The Weeknd is also scheduled to perform at the event, which could lead to some awkwardness backstage or on the runway if the two happen to cross the same paths at the same time.

While it’s clear that Bella wanted to avoid an award run-in with her ex, she could have still shown up to the award ceremony to support her sister. This comes after the rumors that the sisters are not getting along after it was reported that they both would be walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, according to Hollywood Life.

“Like most sisters Gigi and Bella can get competitive, especially since they’re both up for a lot of the same jobs. They don’t usually let it come between them but the Victoria Secret show is a tough one. Gigi’s on edge about it, she really wants to be the star of the show this year. She’s happy Bella is going to be walking in it too — as long as she doesn’t outshine her.”

Gigi revealed on her Instagram that she’s returning to the annual fashion show this year. Bella also shared a video exclaiming her excitement over becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel. However, the famous sisters did not publicly congratulate each other on social media. In addition to the VS show, Gigi and Bella are both up for the International Model of the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards on Dec. 5, and additional sources tell Hollywood Life that they both are gunning for the award.

In a new interview with People, Gigi revealed that they even fight over the same clothes.

“She steals from my closet,” the 21-year-old stated. “That’s how she is. I just wouldn’t go to her house and take her things.”
