Tim Allen Blames ‘Hypocritical Hollywood Liberals’ For ‘Bullying’ Trump Supporters
Tim Allen, one of the few conservatives working in the entertainment industry, appeared on Fox News’ The Kelly File on Monday night to talk about what he believes is a pattern of “bullying” by Trump supporters, Fox News is reporting.
The 63-year-old Last Man Standing star sat down with Megyn Kelly and told the hostess that he believes “Hollywood liberals” are being hypocritical for calling Trump a bully when they themselves (the “Hollywood liberals”) are the bullies.
“What I find odd in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully. But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. And it gets a little bit hypocritical to me.”

Allen was quick to point out that while he’s not exactly a fan of Donald Trump, he thinks the criticisms against him may be a bit overblown.
“You get bullied into a position, but I don’t want to defend the guy. To me, he acts like a new talent comedian. These are guys that have great material that have very bad comedy timing. And he’s got terrible timing.”
Unlike the overwhelming majority of actors, writers, producers, and over movers and shakers in Hollywood, Tim Allen is unabashedly conservative. And unlike a liberal counterpart such as, say, Barbara Streisand, who all but wears her politics on her sleeve, Allen is comparatively circumspect about his politics. Still, he’ll proudly bleed red when he’s cut, so to speak.
Last year, according to Independent Journal Review, Allen spoke about which of the then-Republican presidential candidates he would support. It wasn’t Donald Trump.
“I went to see [Ohio governor John Kasich] at an LA town meeting, which is usually a very liberal forum. He talked about poor people and the underprivileged and the working poor. It was very un-Republican. He is a Republican that a Democrat could vote for.”
By January 2016, however, Allen had changed his tune on which Republican candidate he’d support. In remarks made available via The Hollywood Insider, Allen praised Donald Trump for his lack of “encumbrances.”
“So the smartest thing about him, which is probably most overlooked, to me, is that he doesn’t owe anybody anything and if he would just stick to fixing the bridges, roads and infrastructures that’s what he knows how to do…just keep him doing that.”
Born Timothy Allen Dick in Denver, Colorado, according to Biography, Tim Allen worked briefly as a cocaine dealer after college. In 1978, Allen was arrested at the Kalamazoo, Michigan airport with a pound and a half of cocaine. He would later be sentenced to eight years in prison, serving only 28 months.
After getting out of prison, Allen worked at a Detroit ad agency while doing stand-up comedy at night and developing his schtick as a hyper-masculine, tool-obsessed macho man who sometimes speaks in grunts. That persona would go on to be the basis for his most famous role, Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor on the 1990’s sitcom Home Improvement. He would later revisit that persona, playing a similar character on the ABC comedy Last Man Standing.
At his current job, Allen uses his character, Mike Baxter, as a comedic vehicle for his own political views, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And even though Baxter is “written by liberals,” as Allen describes it, he comes off as reasonable, as Hollywood depictions of conservatives go. Allen calls Baxter “an educated Archie Bunker.”
