Twitter and celebrities ranging from Taylor Swift to Lady Gaga showered Selena Gomez with support and cheers following her triumphant return at Sunday night’s 2016 American Music Awards show (AMAs). The “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer moved those listening to her touching words as she opened up about her struggles that led to her decision to take time off from her music career.
After receiving the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Selena told those listening about how she had grown emotionally, reported Billboard.
“I kept it together and I swore I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down,” she shared.
“I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore.”
The cheers began as her words ended, with Lady Gaga trying to hold back her tears. Lady Gaga also shared an Instagram photo in which she and Gomez hugged.
“So dope I got to hang with the biggest rockstar of the night. (Ya,know besides Sting and Green Day)…the girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world,” wrote Lady Gaga.
Also, Selena’s close friend Taylor Swift shared her own pride in her pal.
ET noted that Selena caused fans, viewers, and friends to become emotional after her heartfelt acceptance speech at the AMAs. The 24-year-old pop princess’ best friend Taylor headed to Instagram Stories to share what happened as she watched her BFF at the AMAs.
The video shared by Swift showed her watching from home. Taylor screamed with excitement when Gomez won Favorite Female Artist — Pop/Rock.
“Baby,” wrote Swift for the video caption.
Also, Taylor reportedly “liked” a photo from a fan on Instagram showing her best friend on the red carpet at the AMAs.
Others celebrating the pop princess in her touching triumph were Camila Cabello, a member of Swift’s squad, who shared her love.
Someone else who knows what it’s like to face the music and slay it: Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, who also turned to Twitter to cheer for Selena.
“Amazing!!! @selenagomez looking so effortlessly beautiful. Love the message. Congrats, well deserved,” praised Aly.
For actor Colton Haynes, the message about mental health deserved “the biggest hug in the world,” as he tweeted, praising “@selenagomez for speaking about how important it is to take care of your mental health.”
In addition to those celebrities, Ariana Grande gushed about Gomez. Ariana performed her hit “Side to Side” at the AMAs, and she told ET’s Cameron Mathison that she was moved almost to tears.
“I literally almost cried when I saw her,” admitted Grande. “I haven’t talked to her in a long time. So, I don’t know what’s going on, but I gave her a huge hug and she looks beautiful.”
Ariana expressed her happiness in seeing the other songstress.
“I’m so happy that she’s here. I’m happy to see her out and about.”
La Toya Jackson also turned to Twitter to share her admiration.
“Congrats to #SelenaGomez! What a beautiful speech…#AMAs,” tweeted Jackson.
In addition to celebrities gushing about Gomez, her fans went wild, with Twitter lighting up with “#SelenaIsBackParty” and “#Rebirth” tributes.
Hollywood Life pointed out that fans have been waiting throughout her hiatus for her return, and the excitement resulted in an outpouring of love on Twitter.
