Selena Gomez Makes First Public Appearance At AMAs Following Stint In Rehab
She’s back! Selena Gomez made her first red carpet appearance on Sunday following her stint in rehab to deal with issues related to Lupus.
The 24-year-old walked the American Music Awards red carpet in a red floor-length Prada gown. Gomez was a sight to see in the dramatic gown with plunging neckline.
Selena wore her hair in a low ponytail while sporting nude-toned makeup. She finished the look off with drop diamond earrings and a diamond ring on her index finger. Despite dealing with health issues, the singer had a certain glow about her as she posed for cameras.
According to Us Magazine, Selena announced in August she was taking a break in order to deal with depression and anxiety.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have Lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of Lupus, which can present their own challenges.”
Following her public statement, Selena entered rehab at a Tennessee facility that Us Magazine described as “private and quiet place” and also “super intense.” Part of keeping a low profile, Gomez canceled stops on her “Revival” tour as she sought treatment. Not only has Selena avoided the public eye, but she has seemingly stopped posting on social media as well.
Her last Instagram post is marked 13 weeks ago as she posted a photo from her since ended “Revival” tour.

E! News is calling Selena’s AMAs appearance a “surprise” as she once again goes public following a break. Gomez is up for two different awards, Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, according to E! News. This may help explain why the pop singer decided to step out following her time in treatment.
Selena’s time in the Tennessee facility is not her first attempt at focusing on her mental health by taking a break from her career. Us Magazine reports she also took a break during her 2013 “Stars Dance” concert tour, telling fans of her battle with Lupus. Selena also checked into a rehab in 2014 to seek treatment for the autoimmune disease as both personal and health issues began to weigh on her.
“I got diagnosed with lupus. My mom had a very public miscarriage. So I had to cancel my tour. I needed time to just be OK.”
Since her AMAs appearance, Selena’s fans have sounded off on seeing the singer back in public. Commenters have taken to expressing their joy on a photo posted by celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo.

One Instagram user said they were laughing and crying at the same time over seeing photos of Selena once again.
“IM SCREAMING. THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER. IN (sic) LAUGHING BUT IM CRYING AT THE SAME DAMN TIME.”
While commenters said how pretty Selena looks in her AMA makeup, others asked Hung to post more photos.
“Hung Can you please post another selfie.”
And he delivered.

Hung shared another photo of Gomez, saying she looked “radiant” as she attended the award show hosted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Selena joins the likes of Gigi Hadid for best dressed at this year’s awards. The model and co-host turned heads in a wedding-like gown that displayed the 21-year-old’s figure.

While Hadid is a sight to see, it’s Selena who’s making headlines as she surprises dedicated fans with her appearance. The Huffington Post refers to Gomez’s fans as “Selenators” as they say her AMA appearance was just a rumor until it was confirmed by her makeup artist. Her red carpet appearance is being described as “magical” as she finally breaks her silence.
