WWE News: Big Update On Shawn Michaels’ Role At The WWE Performance Center

With Triple H assuming a significant position of power within the WWE, there will always be a place in the company for Shawn Michaels if he wants it. Shawn has remained steadfast in his stance against ever stepping into the ring again for another match despite clamoring from both fans and the WWE alike.

Michaels’ retirement was the stuff that wrestlers dream about and very few are fortunate enough to experience. His wrestling career ended at the hands of the Undertaker in a main-event match on the grand stage that is WrestleMania. And even though he’s watched countless superstars return for one more taste of glory — including Ric Flair, who Shawn Michaels himself retired in another classic WrestleMania match — HBK has stayed true to his word and that stipulation from 2010.

The Show-Off did appear at this past year’s WrestleMania in a physical role that also saw Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley answer the challenge laid out by the League of Nations after their victory over The New Day. Shawn trained for the spot for an entire month leading up to that April night in Dallas, showing off the fruits of his labor and leaving many with the impression that he had plenty left in the tank.

Everyone has agreed that even if Shawn Michaels never agrees to a match again, he still has a wealth of information to bestow upon the company in some capacity. Recently, there have been numerous reports floating around that Michaels relocated to Florida in order to take over the role as the head of the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. Kevin Nash even publicly claimed as much in a recent interview.

However, on the most recent NXT conference call, Triple H refuted those rumors, stating that Matt Bloom (aka Prince Albert, Tensai, etc.) is still very much in charge at the NXT training facility. However, according to a report from Wrestling Inc, HHH does have a specific job in mind for his former partner in DX and perhaps the greatest in-ring performer of all-time.

It is unclear if he has definitely relocated from Texas to Florida on a full-time basis, but Shawn’s proposed role is interesting, to say the least. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer lays out what Michaels would be doing in order to help with the NXT superstars.

“(Shawn) Michaels would likely be a bridge between NXT and the main roster and work with a half-dozen NXT talents at a time who are ready for a call-up to prepare them for the main roster. He would also provide his recommendations on which talents are ready to be brought up or not.”

Triple H would like Shawn to help polish the stars of NXT by putting the finishing touches on their characters and move-sets so that they are fully prepared for life as a WWE superstar. There is a pretty clear pecking order in NXT, and it appears Michaels would work with the brand’s best so that they are fully capable of making an impact on the big stage.

By looking at the NXT roster right now, those talents would certainly include Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, The Revival, Austin Aries, Hideo Itami, and, perhaps, Tye Dillinger. Per Triple H, Shawn would let Bloom and his team train them as currently constructed, and Michaels would come in when a decision is coming close to being made in regards to their futures and help promote a finished product.

The Inquisitr recently reported that even though he’s clearly a top guy in NXT, there are no immediate plans to call up Nakamura to the main roster so that he can fill the role as the flag-bearer of the brand. It’s unclear whether Shawn Michaels has gotten to work with the King of Strong Style yet, but those prospects would certainly be intriguing.
