Matt Damon And Ben Affleck Strong Contenders To Host Oscars 2017

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, one of the most beloved Hollywood duos, could host Academy Awards 2017, according to IndieWire. The Martian actor and Affleck have a pretty strong chance of being invited to host next year’s ceremony.

This suggestion comes after news that the Academy recently hired Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd as Oscar 2017 producers. But how is it even related? Well, Todd is president of Matt Damon and Affleck’s Pearl Street Films, which means he could invite the two to serve as presenters.

But there are also two other reasons that Matt Damon and Affleck should host Academy Awards 2017 ceremony. First of all, the two actors will likely be nominated for an Oscar next year. Affleck has a high chance of getting a nod for his Oscar-worthy adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel Live By Night.

Matt Damon, meanwhile, is producing Manchester by the Sea, in which, by the way, Ben Affleck’s brother, Casey Affleck, is starring. The films are set to hit theaters on December 25 and November 18 respectively. And this gives both actors a very good chance to be in the Oscar race next year.

The second reason to have Matt Damon and Affleck host Oscars 2017 ceremony is: why not? Those two guys are hilarious, witty, and strong writers. That makes them the perfect Oscar hosting duo.

In his interview with IndieWire, Todd didn’t rule out the possibility of Matt Damon and Affleck hosting the next year’s Oscars.

“You never know what can happen. The guys are fans of the Oscars, which have been meaningful to them in their life experiences.”

Todd also added that he recently re-watched 1998’s 70th Academy Awards ceremony, when Matt Damon and Affleck won Oscars for penning the Good Will Hunting screenplay. That same year, Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio took home a whopping 11 awards.

There is no doubt that Matt Damon and Affleck would make perfect Oscar hosts. The two have proven multiple times that they can handle large audiences, they can crack hilarious jokes and they are an excellent team!

In fact, during one of Jimmy Kimmel Live’s segments, Affleck smuggled Matt Damon onto the show inside a fat suit. Damon and Kimmel have a long-standing feud, and the night talk show’s fans love it!

The Academy would also benefit from having Matt Damon and Affleck host the Oscars 2017 because they know everyone in the room and have personally worked with many of them. However, there is one problem that will probably stand in the way: the two are extremely busy with other projects nowadays.

Matt Damon is currently preparing to debut his upcoming film Manchester by the Sea starring Casey Affleck, according to Slash Film. The Oscar-nominated actor and Oscar-winning producer worked with director Kenneth Lonergan to make the Oscar-worthy movies.

In fact, it’s not the first time Matt Damon and Lonergan have worked together. The actor starred in a London production of one of Lonergan’s plays back in the early 2000s. Interestingly, in that play – This is Our Youth – the actor starred alongside Ben Affleck’s brother, Casey.

But the list of projects Matt Damon and Lonergan have worked together doesn’t end there. The actor had a supporting role in the filmmaker’s Margaret. But that was a troublesome period for Lonergan, because the film caught up in legal troubles and the filmmaker’s reputation was in shreds.

With Manchester by the Sea, which hits theaters on November 18, Matt Damon helps Lonergan restore his reputation. Initially, the Martian actor was set to direct the film. Then he was attached to star in the film. And then he realized he would be better off producing the film.
