Parker Schnabel, the popular reality star on Gold Rush has been a fan favorite for the first six seasons of the Discovery Channel show. Now that he is starting Season 7 with a new Aussie girlfriend, yet without his beloved grandfather, John Schnabel, who passed away before the season started. Fans want to know, how much is Parker Schnabel worth? Fans of Gold Rush also want to know how they too, can get into gold mining and get rich like Parker? The Gold Rush star has shared his advice on how to get into gold mining and some of the struggles when learning the gold mining business.

Starting out with the good stuff, how much is Parker Schnabel worth? According to Celebrity Net Worth, Parker is worth a cool $1 million dollars. Not bad for a 22-year old! He had the good sense to move on from Porcupine Creek up to the Yukon and it paid off. With new equipment and a young and hungry crew, there is no doubt that Schnabel will add to his wealth at the end of this season.

As wealthy as Parker currently is, this did not come easy. As a teenager, Parker Schnabel had to learn to negotiate with employees, landlords, and suppliers as a green teenager. He had a steep learning curve and some hard knocks, captured by the Discovery Channel cameras before he reached his current success. By learning some key people skills, he has been able to operate a profitable gold mining business in the harsh Yukon.

“None of it was very easy. The hardest part was probably learning how to put myself in other people’s shoes and learning how to deal with landlords, suppliers and most importantly, our employees. As a teenager, you have no experience with those types of things – such as how to deal with problems and come up with solutions. These are things that only you only get with experience.”

While it sounds like Parker is all business, he told Maxim that there can be some intense moments that are relieved by some equally intense craziness. Add a little alcohol to the mix, along with a dash of sleep deprivation and non-stop work hours, and the result can be food fights and even some crazy body slamming. Parker may easily be the youngest person on site, yet he has to be the most responsible if he wants to continue to be a success and keep the crew working as a team.

“There is quite a bit of built up rage and working all those days and weeks without time off. And that rage can come out when alcohol gets mixed in. A few weeks ago, I had a party and some of the guys started body slamming each other, and started throwing potatoes at each other. If I didn’t intervene, it would have turned into complete chaos. There is definitely a lot of built up rage.”

So, what about becoming a gold miner? What equipment do you need to be a successful gold miner? Before you run off and get up your own six-figure “Big Red,” Parker suggests keeping it simple and getting a small sluice box and go old school with a gold pan. His idea to start small is also a piece of relationship advice, as keeping costs down will keep spouses happy. Sounds like Parker’s people skills have extended beyond negotiating with landlords and suppliers.

“Don’t do it! No, honestly if someone wants to start, my advice is that you need to start small. Start off with a gold pan and a tiny sluice box. Don’t go huge where you’re hurting for money and your wife gets mad.”
