Cynthia Bailey On Sharing Divorce On ‘RHOA’: ‘I Could Be A Better Friend To Peter’

Cynthia Bailey thought about divorcing her husband, Peter Thomas, for months as she was devastated by his betrayal on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Last season, Bailey learned that she had been too trusting with her husband, who had been spending more time in Charlotte, North Carolina. Peter had chosen to start various businesses in North Carolina rather than in Georgia, which made the marriage hard to keep alive and fresh.

And when a troublesome video surfaced on Instagram last year of Peter getting a little too close with another woman, Cynthia felt it was time to pull the plug on her marriage. But rather than do it when the show was on a hiatus, she chose to meet with a lawyer on the season premiere of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

According to a new Bravo report, Cynthia Bailey is now revealing that it took her a lot of time to decide whether getting a divorce was the right thing for her. Bailey really wanted to trust her husband, but the tabloids went crazy with the story and she realized that it may be better if they were just friends rather than married. But she needed time to come to this decision.

“I ultimately decided that it was time to end my marriage with Peter when I felt like I had reached my own personal breaking point. I believed that I had given as much as I could — spiritually and emotionally I had nothing else to give. I realized that going forward I could be a better friend to Peter than a wife,” Cynthia Bailey reveals in an interview with Bravo, sharing that she felt that her role as a wife had come to an end.

When Bailey sat down with her lawyer, he asked her some pointed questions about the couple’s finances, and it sounds like the divorce would be straight forward. Whatever Cynthia brought to the marriage would be what she leaves with and the same with Peter. Bailey just wanted the house, as it is in her name. She later sold the home and bought a lakefront property for herself just outside of Atlanta.

Cynthia Bailey Done With Her Marriage, Asking For An Easy And Clean Divorce

“It was very difficult. Thinking about divorce is one thing, but actually retaining a lawyer to move forward with your decision makes it more official. On my drive to my lawyer’s office I kept asking myself over and over in my head, ‘Are you sure this is what you want to do, Cynthia?'” Cynthia Bailey points out in her interview with Bravo, sharing that she wasn’t even sure about her divorce once she drove to the lawyer’s office.

Of course, Peter hadn’t exactly done a lot to convince her that the marriage was worth staying in. And while Thomas was in North Carolina, Bailey was spending time with her Real Housewives of Atlanta co-stars, including Kenya Moore. On the season premiere, Kenya had her housewarming party and Cynthia is convinced that the home will be beautiful once it is done.

“My first impression of Moore Manor’s makeover was that I actually was impressed! Very impressed. I had visited the manor in the beginning stages of the makeover process, and let’s just say that Shrek has happily returned back to the swamp, and Jason has relocated back to Camp Crystal Lake! Although the manor was not 100 percent complete and needed a lot MOORE work, everything that was finished was beautiful, and very tastefully done. Moore Manor is going to be amazing,” Cynthia Bailey reveals in her interview with Bravo.
