‘Dancing With The Stars’ Week 9: Who’s Going Home Monday After The Team-Up Challenge On Showstoppers Night?

Dancing with the Stars returns for the ninth week of competition on Monday, November 7, and with just one week to go before the semi-finals, the remaining six couples will be showing off their best dance moves in hopes of making it one dance closer to winning the Season 23 Mirrorball Trophy.

It’s “Showstoppers Night” on Monday and that means two rounds of dancing for all six couples. According to ABC, viewers will see each couple perform a dance routine to Broadway show tunes, followed by the Team-Up competition between the six remaining celebrities and their pro-dance partners (see the complete performance lineup below).

At the end of the two-hour show, host Tom Bergeron will send one couple home, but it won’t be based on how well they did during their “Showstoppers” routines. Instead, the elimination is determined by the couple who had the lowest combination of judges’ scores and viewers’ votes from last week’s Halloween Night performances (Week 8).

Who will leave on Showstoppers Night and who are the five couples who will move on to the Dancing with the Stars semi-finals next week? Here’s the low-down on Monday night’s show along with a list of Week 8 dances and songs.

Len Goodman will be absent from the judges’ table once again. Sitting in his seat as a guest judge this week will be Idina Menzel, who will perform her new single, “Queen of Swords” during the show.

Former DWTS pro-dancer Mark Ballas will return to the ballroom on Monday night, but he won’t be dancing. According to Playbill, Mark is part of the cast of the Broadway Hit, Jersey Boys where he plays the role of Frankie Vallie.

Ballas will continue his role through mid-January, 2017, but on Monday night he will join his “Jersey Boys” co-stars and perform “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)” while Marilu Henner and Derek Hough do their couples’ dance routine.

Here’s a list of the dance styles that all six couples will be performing to Broadway show tunes this week, followed by the lineup for the Team-Up challenge.

Week 9 Couples’ Dances

  • Marilu Henner and Derek Hough: “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” (Samba)
  • Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy: “Cell Block Tango” (Argentine Tango)
  • James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess: “A Brand New Day” (Jazz)
  • Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold: “Memory” (Waltz)
  • Terra Jole and Sasha Farber: “If My Friends Could See Me Now” (Charleston)
  • Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko: “She Used to Be Mine” (Waltz)

Week 9 Team-Up Challenge

  • James and Sharna with Calvin and Lindsay: “No Good” (Paso Doble)
  • Jana and Gleb with Laurie and Val: “Bird Set Free” (Contemporary)
  • Marilu and Derek with Terra and Sasha:

Who’s Going Home On “Showstoppers Night”?

Last week, James Hinchliffe topped the leaderboard with a total score of 35, despite the fact that his partner, Sharna Burgess, was out with a knee injury. Laurie and Val took second place (33), followed by Calvin and Lindsay and Jana and Gleb who tied for third place (30).

Terra and Sasha came in fourth place on Halloween Night (24), but it was six-time Mirrorball winner Derek Hough and his celebrity partner, Marilu Henner, who ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard last week (23).

Although fans won’t know for sure who will be in jeopardy and which couple will be eliminated until host Tom Bergeron makes the big reveal on Monday night, there is speculation that the two celebrities at the bottom of the leaderboard — Terra and Marilu — will both be in jeopardy on Week 9.

However, Ryan and Cheryl, who were eliminated last week, hovered around the bottom of the leaderboard all season and didn’t go home until Week 8, proving that votes from fans can really help the couples stay on the show despite their lack of talent on the dance floor.

Which couple do you think will go home on Monday night?
