Brad Pitt Requests Joint Custody Of Children Amid Angelina Jolie’s Divorce Petition

Brad Pitt is taking the fight to Angelina Jolie in regards to their children.

Court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight indicate that Pitt, 52, is requesting joint – both legal and physical – custody of the former couple’s six children. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children are comprised of 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Pitt filed for joint custody on October 31.

Court documents filed by Pitt show similarities to Jolie’s divorce petition filed on September 19. Both documents list the date of their separation as September 15, 2016, and cite irreconcilable differences as the cause of the divorce. Both parties are also asking to pay their own attorney’s fees. No details about spousal or child support were mentioned in either filings.

The points of contention between the two filings have something to do with custody of the children. Angelina Jolie requested for joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their six children. The Maleficent actress also indicated specific property to be granted to her, whereas Pitt hasn’t claimed any property yet.

An insider for ET said that Jolie was not at all surprised by Pitt’s legal move.

Even if Jolie and Pitt are not in agreement in regards to custodial matters, the source assured that “the goal for the parents is to resolve this between themselves amicably and privately.”

The source added that Jolie filed for sole custody of the children to ensure that they’re safe.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie agreed to a temporary custody deal, which stipulates that the former is allowed to visit his six children granted that the visits are supervised.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr,Brad Pitt has had two supervised visits with his children. Brad Pitt had his first supervised visit with Maddox on October 19.

The Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt divorce follows an alleged physical confrontation between Pitt and Maddox on a private jet. Reports say that the actor was allegedly wasted when the physical altercation occurred, and that he allegedly lost his temper, screaming and getting physical with the children. TMZ reports that witnesses saw Pitt going on a rant on the tarmac as soon as his plane landed at an airport around 8 p.m.

Sources say that the incident convinced Jolie to break up with Pitt the next day and then file for divorce after a few days. Before long, the actress also filed a child abuse case against the actor, prompting the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services to conduct an investigation. Brad has been cooperating with the DCFS in their investigation ever since.

A source close to the actor tells TMZ that Pitt denies that he committed any abuse to his children.

“He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”

US Weekly reports that DCFS has extended their investigation of Brad Pitt as investigators are looking for additional incidents or a pattern that may suggest a history of child abuse.

“They are looking at a history and pattern of behavior,” a source tells Us. “They are looking at not only the original incident but other possible incidents surrounding it and more history.”

A legal source also says that “it’s normal for the DCFS to extend past the deadline to complete their work when an agreement exists between the parties.”

Brad and Angelina were together for 12 years after meeting on the set of 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The couple have adopted children from Cambodia, Vietnam, and Ethiopia. In 2012, Jolie became a special envoy for the United Nations. The actress used her platform to give voice to the plight of refugees and fight for breast cancer treatment. She helped build homes New Orleans following the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina.
