‘Pokemon GO’ Rumor: A Thanksgiving Event In The Works, According To Credible Source

Another week, another Pokemon GO rumor. A Thanksgiving event seems to be next on Niantic Labs schedule for the world’s most popular app, according to a Slash Gear source. While the source has not been named, Slash Gear does claim this is the same person that linked the popular Halloween event just days before it happened.

There is no doubt about the popularity of the first Pokemon GO event. While the final numbers for all versions of the app have not been published, the Apple version alone brought in an estimated $42.9 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. In the week prior to the launch of the special event, revenue was less that $20 million.

While Niantic has not confirmed when the next event will take place, the Journal claims they have decided to incorporate this strategy. In the case of Pokemon GO, this has allowed them to increase revenue without adding anything new to the game in terms of things like more Pokemon or the sought after trading features they have talked about in the past.

Slash Gear claims that the their source indicated that fans of the app can expect much of the same format that made the Halloween event so successful. This includes increased spawning of certain Pokemon, earning candies faster for buddy Pokemons, and doubling candies for caught and transferred Pokemon. These may not be the only changes to the normal game either.

Rumors are also swirling about the way candies might be rewarded. The official Pokemon GO Facebook page hinted that favorite Pokemon could be “treated” different in the future.

While their is no indication what this could refer to, it is the feeling of those at Slash Gear that buddy Pokemon will be affected.

“It could be that the popularity of walking during the Halloween event could make the Buddy Pokemon requirement change permanent.”

According to the report, Niantic has also decided which Pokemon will be spawning more often for the Thanksgiving event. The Halloween event saw Pokemon particularly from the Psychic-type appear more, especially the ones that have a spooky back story. These included Ghastly, Haunter, Gengar, Cubone, Marowak, and Meowth to name just a few. If the rumor is to be believed, this upcoming Thanksgiving players can expect to see more of Spearow, Fearow, Psyduck, Golduck, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Ponyta, and Rapidash.

Despite the fact that Thanksgiving is celebrated all over the world at different times, this will take place in conjunction with the date of Thanksgiving in the United States. Exact days were not included in the rumor, but it is thought that one can expect to possibly catch just before Thursday, November 24. Most all students in the United States are out of school on Wednesday, November 23. The event is thought to most likely continue through the weekend.

Pure conjecture from Slash Gear purposes that a stronger emphasis could be placed on walking with your buddy Pokemon. It is thought that you might be rewarded for walking off the supposed excess weight one might have gained from overindulging on Thanksgiving Day.

At the moment it should be stressed that this is nothing more than a Pokemon GO rumor. A Thanksgiving event would seem to be a profitable business move for Niantic and The Pokemon Company. The Halloween event certainly had a positive effect on the app, including the increased revenue and the fact that it regained the top spot briefly. Would you welcome another event, or are you just waiting for the legendary Pokemon to be released?
