‘Gears Of War 4’ Gear Packs Get Revamp, Upcoming 10th Anniversary Brings Carmine Back

The Coalition is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Gears of War with two important changes to Gears of War 4 for the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. The developer is revamping how Gear Packs and bounties work and is bringing the latest Carmine brother in to be killed again and again in multiplayer.

The Gear Pack system changes are planned to go live Friday, November 4, in Gears of War 4. The changes are The Coalition’s response to fan feedback. Owners have complained about how the micro-transaction system works in regards to the time it takes to earn credits to purchase and the content they provide. There’s already been one pass made on updating the Gear Pack system for Horde mode and now a second will arrive soon.

Gears of War 4 owners who enjoy the Versus will now earn more credits for winning matches. Additionally, the amount of credits for losing will be closer to the credits earned from a win. Community Manager Adam Fletcher explained this will provide “a more consistent income even if you’re having a rough night in Versus.” That’s likely the most controversial aspect of the update as some community members would rather see an incentive for winning over just playing.

Bounties are receiving an update as well to award more experience and credits based on their difficulty. They have “been rebalanced to offer achievable but challenging goals for each game mode.”

Finally, the contents of the Gear Packs will receive a revamp after fans have complained about difficulty in obtaining customization items. Versus Booster packs will contain one guaranteed customization item and four Bounties. One of those four Bounties has a chance to turn into a second customization item.

Meanwhile, the Horde Booster packs will also contain customization items now, up from zero. The remaining four items will be Horde Skill cards with a chance for one of them to be a Horde Bounty.

Finally, Operations Packs will contain two guaranteed customization items.

The Coalition is still learning and adjusting on how to work micro-transactions in Gears of War 4, so expect more updates and tweaks to the Gear Pack system in the future. The good news is it does allow for the addition of free maps and the 10th Anniversary packs planned for next week.

The Gears of War franchise will celebrate its 10th anniversary next week, starting on November 7 with the Tenth Anniversary Gear Pack. Gary Carmine is the featured item to get while there is also a set of Carmine family weapon skins, “10 Years of Gear” weapon sets, new emblems, and bounties.

The best part of the anniversary pack is that it only costs 200 credits to purchase in-game. Each pack comes with one 10 Years of Gears customization item, one 10 Years of Gears Emblem or bounty, and a random card from the Gears of War 4 Launch Series of Cards.
