Mariah Carey Performs Live For The First Time Since James Packer Split — Is The Engagement Really Over?

Mariah Carey has taken the stage for the first time since her much-publicized split with James Packer.

As expected, Carey wasn’t wearing the 35-carat diamond engagement ring that Packer gave her when he proposed to her earlier this year. Still, the year old songstress, clad in a red and pink Anna Maier gown, looked stunning and vibrant as ever, as she performed the Christmas classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

Mariah Carey took the stage outside the Queen Street flagstore in Toronto Canada on Thursday night to commemorate the annual Hudson’s Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Window unveiling. The event was live-streamed on the department store’s official Facebook page, as reported by Toronto Star.

According to TMZ, Carey was paid $1 million for her Toronto performance.

After being introduced by Mayor John Tory and members of Hudson’s Bay Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue, Mariah took the stage, waving to the crowd as she sang. After the five-minute performance, fireworks went off and confetti rained down on the crowd.

While a big majority of fans were delighted by the performance, there were some who wished that it could have gone longer.

“It was a good show, but it was too short,” Kristin Dimitrievski, 21, told the Star. “You couldn’t even hear the first song. What did she even sing?”

Mark Gangaprashad, 23, who rushed from Etobicoke to Queen St. after hearing news of Carey’s appearance and stood for two hours waiting for her to appear, said:

“She walked right in front of me. She looked so gorgeous. What an amazing performance. She brought the energy.”

Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You is considered an all-time holiday classic, selling over 14 million copies and earning fourth place in Rolling Stones’ Greatest Rock and Roll Christmas Songs list.

It doesn’t look like Mariah Carey will have a romantic Christmas in the coming holidays, considering the messy breakup from James Packer earlier this year.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, it looked like the breakup with the Aussie billionaire would be temporary, that James only “needed a break.”

Shortly after the report, Mariah was spotted stepping out with her friends at Nobu in Malibu, still wearing her $10 million engagement ring.

A source said that the singing diva “was with a group of friends. She had fun and sipped champagne. She was very dressed up, wore her engagement ring and seemed in a great mood. She wanted to show James that she isn’t sitting at home crying. She doesn’t seem too concerned.”

But things turned for the worse last week, as both parties exchanged hostile words with each other through the media. It began when a source close to Mariah told People that the breakup was on account of the business mogul’s mental health.

“James has not been in a mentally healthy place,” the source said. “His behavior was not a desirable situation for Mariah so she, unfortunately, had to leave him.”

Packer’s representative dismissed the accusation, saying that it’s “typical Mariah to just twist things that don’t sound good to her.”

“They split because she has issues. James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant great guy. To put her issues on James is ridiculous,” Packer’s source continued.

“James is very private, and doesn’t need the media to be successful. He doesn’t want to be a part of Mariah’s reality show.”

Despite having gone through a breakup, Mariah Carey makes it a point to spend a lot of time with her children. In fact, she and ex-husband Nick Cannon attended a Halloween bash with their two kids. Nick Cannon and his son dressed as the Super Mario Bros. Mariah Carey donned a devil costume while their daughter dressed as Rapunzel.

Given the previous events, it looks like Mariah Carey and James Packer’s engagement is really over.
