After the defeat in the Champions League against Manchester City, Barcelona will resume La Liga action in a tricky fixture away to Sevilla.

Despite starting brightly in the game against City, Barcelona could not convert their dominance into goals in the first half. Lionel Messi scored for the Catalans in a break, but a second-half resurgence from Manchester City saw the English side win their first game against Barcelona after five consecutive losses.

The game once against strengthened the claim that Luis Enrique is not a better manager than his compatriot Pep Guardiola, and Barcelona is not the same side without Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique.

The midfield maestro was sorely missed against City, as Barcelona’s midfield of Sergio Busquet, Andre Gomes, and Ivan Rakitic could not deal with City’s relentless pressure. Pique’s ability to bring the ball from the back is missed by Barcelona, and they are a better side with the 29-year-old on team. However, against Sevilla, both Iniesta and Pique will not play any part, as they are currently nursing their injuries.

In the same competition, Sevilla won big against Dinamo Zagreb, scoring four goals without a reply. Luciano Vietto had great game, and he capped off his solid performance with a goal. He is expected to start against Barca on Sunday.

Alongside Pique and Iniesta, Arda Turan may be unavailable for Barcelona, as he picked up an ankle injury in the game against Manchester City after coming off the bench.

French defender Jeremy Mathieu will miss the game due to calf strain he picked up in training few weeks ago.

Jordi Alba is doubtful to start the game, but he may take part in the match as a substitute.
