‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’ Episode 8 Reveals Another Twist, Was It The Calm Before The Storm?

American Horror Story: Roanoke Episode 8 continued with the bloodbath that has been going on for the past few episodes. By the standard of AHS, Episode 8 was a quiet affair in spite of revealing several twists. It appeared to be a calm before the storm, the final two chapters.

By the end of AHS Season 6, we are aware only one person will survive. Episode 8 continued eliminating more cast members and moving forward towards the sole survivor.

In Episode 8, Dominic and Shelby watch from the window in horror as the real Butcher kills Agnes. They watch in disbelief as Roanoke mob surround the house with torches. They try to escape through the tunnel under the house, but they are stopped in their tracks by the Chins, ghosts of the Taiwanese family slaughtered in the re-enactment.

American Horror Story: Roanoke Episode 8 reveals Shelby has no intentions to live. Shelby and Dominic manage to escape but Shelby has given up all intentions of fighting back.

She says, “We’re going to die in here, there is no escape.”

AHS Episode 8 shows Shelby becoming completely delusional after killing the old man, whom she loved once. A falling old chandelier allows both Shelby and Dominic to escape. After reaching the bedroom, Shelby slits her own throat. Dominic continues spouting jokes, indicating it is only a matter of time before he is gone too.

American Horror Story: Roanoke Episode 8 continued to focus on the Polk family. In telling of “My Roanoke Nightmare” the same cannibal family had tortured the Millers. In Episode 8, the Polks are still skinning Lee alive.

Eating people is the tradition of the Polk family, which they have carefully crafted. Following the tradition, they remove some flesh from Lee’s leg and shoulders. Polks reveal their past to Lee and tell her how the great depression of the 1920s made them cannibal. The episode also reveals that first piggy man was a Polk.

In Episode 8, there is a stronger side of Lee revealed. She shows stamina and grit indicating that she could be the last person to see through the horrors. Jether continues to terrorize Lee but allows her to film a goodbye message for her daughter. In the message, Lee confesses about the murder of her husband, Mason.

One of the prime objective of American Horror Story: Roanoke Episode 8 seems to be this confession. The speculated reason for the murder is his attempt to take away Flora.

And if all of that was not enough, Jether tries seducing Lee amid the blood-soaked bales of hay on the farm. Lee plays along and escapes, stabbing Jether in the neck. She finds Audrey just in time as Mama Polk was about to pluck her teeth.

Remember the raining teeth in Episode 1? As the twist reveals, all those teeth were of humans that were sacrificed over the years. According to the Polks, teeth are the only things that don’t burn. No wonder Mama Polk was pulling out Monet’s teeth.

Towards the end of American Horror Story Episode 8, Audrey and Lee make their way back in the house and discover Matt’s dead body along with Shelby’s. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Dominic tries to explain them about the incident but both refuse to believe him and lock him outside the bedroom.

Audrey says, “Shelby would never kill herself! She’s way too self-centered to commit suicide. I played her for six months!”

Since Dominic is left out, he gets slaughtered by Piggy Man, and one more head is bashed. The next morning, Lee and Audrey head back to the farm to retrieve the confession video. As they are about to exit, they find Piggy Man near the door.

AHS Episode 8, threw another twist at us. The Piggy Man is Wes Bentley, who played the Butcher’s son in the re-enactment. Why was he dressed as Piggy Man now? Does it mean this all has been a double blind? Sydney trying to get a confession out of Lee?

Episode 8 of American Horror Story has left many questions unanswered. But it has surely laid the stage for some twisted storyline for the next episodes.
