Hurry To Catch Darkrai In ‘Pokémon Omega Ruby’ And ‘Alpha Sapphire’ With Event Code

With so many Pokémon events happening this year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the globally-adored series, Nintendo is offering players who may have missed out on previous distribution events a second chance to download a few of the rare pocket monsters. This month, everyone gets another opportunity to download the dream eating Darkrai to their copies of Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire using a special event code. Trainers have to hurry, though, as the code only works through October 31.

The 20th Anniversary Darkrai was previously offered via unique download codes printed on cards that were available at GameStop and EB Games stores in the U.S. and Canada earlier this year throughout the month of May. If you already got a Darkrai in the May distribution event, you won’t be able to get a second one added to the same save file.

To catch Darkrai if you missed it previously, you just need to remember the following code: Darkrai20. With this code in mind, follow these steps:

1. At the Main Menu, choose the “Mystery Gift” option.

2. Then, press the “Receive Gift” button.

3. Select “Via Code” and say “Yes” to connect to the internet.

4. Enter the code “Darkrai20”

5. Get Darkrai and exit out of the Mystery Gift menu.

6. In the game, go to any Pokémon Center and speak with the Delivery Girl.

Important Notes:

  • A free space in your party is needed to get Darkrai from the Delivery Girl.
  • After picking up Darkrai, remember to save your game.
  • Double check that your Nintendo 3DS or 2DS is charged or plugged in using the A/C adapter during this process. If you lose power during the transfer or while saving the game, it is possible your game save may become corrupted.

Darkrai is much easier to catch today via code than it was back in the day. According to Pokemon.com, “Darkrai could originally be brought into Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl by first obtaining it in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.” It has quite the unnerving reputation, as it “chases people and Pokémon from its territory by causing them to experience deep, nightmarish slumbers.”

The Dark-type Pokémon comes in a Cherish Ball maxed out at Level 100, wearing a Classic Ribbon, and holding an Enigma Berry. Darkrai’s moveset includes the Ghost-type moves Ominous Wind and Nightmare. It also features the Dark-type moves Feint Attack and Dark Void.

Armed with the Bad Dreams ability that “reduces the HP of sleeping opposing Pokemon,” Darkrai can put its opponents to sleep using Dark Void and watch their health take an automatic hit. Successfully attacking with Nightmare afterward ensures the opponent will continue to take a hit every turn as long as they remain asleep.

A Meloetta distribution event is planned for December. Known as the ‘Melody Pokémon,’ Meloetta has an Aria Forme and Pirouette Forme as seen above. [Image by Nintendo/The Pokémon Company]

Next month, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (ORAS) players won’t want to miss out on getting the Bug and Steel dual-type Pokémon, Genesect. According to the official Pokémon website, players should plan to visit either GameStop in the U.S. or EB Games in Canada to get a Genesect code card throughout November. Then, the Normal/Psychic-type Meloetta ends the year-long anniversary celebration with a Nintendo Network distribution event in December.

If you haven’t already, there is still time to snap up the 20th Anniversary Keldeo. Its distribution ends on Monday, October 24. Also, Volcanion code cards are still being distributed through October 31 at participating retailers. Details on how to catch both of these legendary creatures can be found in a previous report.
