‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Update: Will Elena’s ‘Very Strong Presence’ Be Enough To Bring Damon Back?

The final season of The Vampire Diaries is set to premiere tomorrow night and Julie Plec and the cast of the show reveal what is to be expected in the CW series’ final season.

In an interview with TV Line, Plec revealed that Elena (Nina Dobrev) has a very big impact on how the individual stories of the gang from Mystic Falls will be showcased.

“We set up at the end [of Season 7] that Stefan had kept up with writing in the journal to keep [Elena] up to speed with everything they’ve been going through.”

Aside from that, Plec said that the other characters that have significant ties with Elena will also have their fair share of storytelling throughout Season 8 as a tribute to how the show began.

“We really keep that up in the beginning of the season. Everyone has their turn telling their stories in the journal. With that, we’ve gotten to both keep Elena’s character alive, but also return to the nostalgia of Season 1 when ‘Dear diary’ was a thing.”

According to Plec, Season 8 will serve as a “year of finallys” for The Vampire Diaries, not only because of the final farewell of the show, but also due to the long awaited return of Nina Dobrev who hasn’t filmed a single shot footage for the show since 2015.

On that note, fans of the cursed love birds Damon and Elena are also expecting something to make them feel like the star-crossed lovers of The Vampire Diaries have a happily-ever-after ending. After all, the Sleeping Beauty spell is what caused her deep slumber in the first place.

E! News tried to get some information on that matter from Ian Somerhalder who played coy and blamed the mystery on Mystic Falls.

“Honestly, I don’t know that. It’s Mystic Falls. There are no happy endings. It didn’t start that way and I don’t know if it’s going to end that way. I do know that’s a very much anticipated storyline but I honestly just don’t know!”

What he does know is that Damon has plummeted into darkness to the point that even Somerhalder doubts he even deserved to get Elena back.

“Everything she’s ever known is gone. Almost everyone she’s ever known is dead. She burned her house down. She’s now in a box,” he said, recalling how Damon and Stefan came and flipped her world upside down.

“These two guys came into this town, they wreaked havoc. This poor, 18-year old girl—talk about robbing the cradle, I’m like 165! These two guys came into her life, and they destroyed it.”

Even so, fans still believe that there is hope for a Delena happily ever after considering Damon and Elena’s history in overcoming the darkest, most difficult obstacles thrown at them.

After all, they managed to change Elena’s fate which was written as payment for her doppleganger’s failed love affair.

Speaking of endings, Candice King shared her thoughts with E! News and confirmed that The Vampire Diaries‘ final season will have “a satisfying but emotional goodbye.”

“Right now I’m just excited to focus on being here and really enjoying this last season. It’s such a gift to be able to go into our season eight knowing it’s the last year,” she explains.

“I don’t think you get to do that often in television, where you get to see the beginning, the middle and celebrate the end.”

King previously shared information about how her character, Caroline and Paul Wesley’s Stefan will have a rollercoaster of a ride in Season 8 struggling through dilemmas which can be considered both old and new for the couple.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premieres on Friday, October 21 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
