Justin Bieber Distantly Related To Celene Dion, Ryan Gosling

Justin Bieber could have a pretty awesome family reunion, as genealogists have determined that the young Canadian pop singer is a distant relative of Celene Dion, Ryan Gosling, and Avril Lavigne.

The amazing Justin Bieber family tree, reported by People, is all connected back to the earliest settlers of Canada’s Quebec province.

Though the star-studded connections seem amazing, it would take a family reunion of epic proportions to actually get them all together. Bieber and Gosling are 11th cousins once removed, he and Dion are 10ths cousins three times removed, and Avril Lavigne is his 12th cousin.

“The great thing about family history is that you never know what you’re going to find,” Michelle Ercanback, a researcher with Ancentry.com, told The Associated Press. “It was a very pleasant surprise.”

The Justin Bieber connections all date back to two French couples who moved to Quebec in the 1600s, People noted. Count Mathurin Roy and Marguerite Bire are common ancestors for Bieber, Gosling, and Lavigne, while Jacques Vezina and Marie Boisdon are the connection between Bieber and Dion.

The investigation into Justin Bieber’s lineage started about a year ago by Ancestry.com, CBS News reported. Ercanback said researchers begun tracing Bieber’s family tree by looking through teen-idol magazines to find biographical tidbits about the pop star.

Ancestry.com has been involved in other notable family tree searches before. In July it found that President Obama could be descended from an African slave.

Though Justin Bieber’s connections to Celene Dion, Ryan Gosling, and Avril Lavigne is noteworthy, Ercanback said she isn’t sure the links are “sufficient to point to the existence of a superstar gene.”
