Rick Springfield Performs ‘Jessie’s Girl’ On New York City Subway [Video]


Rick Springfield surprised his New York City fans with an impromptu performance of his 80s hit “Jessie’s Girl” on a subway platform. According to TMZ, Springfield descended to the the NYC subway system for a surprise performance of his song, which was captured on amateur video. The clip isn’t very long, but it proves that his tune still has staying power.

The video, which is only about a minute long, comes in towards the end of Rick Springfield’s song. Unfortunately for fans, you really can’t hear the guy over the crowd. However, the fact that so many people on the New York City subway are that similar with a song from the 80s is certainly impressive. Once the show is over, you can hear Springfield say that they needed to move. After all, impromptu performances of 80s hits in public areas usually doesn’t sit well with authorities.

What was the purpose of this unscheduled appearance on a busy subway platform? According to Fox News, Springfield has a new album and a motion picture to offer the masses. What better way to drum up some interest for your new products than with a nifty viral video?

During a recent interview, the “Jessie’s Girl” crooner explained the theme of his new album, Songs for the End of the World. According to Springfield, the collection of tunes is aptly-titled.

“It’s a rocking record,” the musician explained. “It’s about relationships and relationships within the world we’re living in now. Personal relationships with people that I know with the added pressure of the world going down the toilet. Relationships and the stress of the world going down, it puts a lot of stress on people, you know financially. I just think we’re getting close to crossing a line here where we won’t be able to come back.”
