WWE News: ‘SmackDown’ Issues Huge ‘Survivor Series’ Challenge To ‘Raw’

The latest WWE news is, of course, all about the Survivor Series, the first Pay-Per-View event featuring both the Raw and the SmackDown brands. And of course, the latest WWE news reports suggest that the tension has already begun to mount between the two brands, especially since SmackDown has just issued a huge challenge to Raw for the Survivor Series.

The official WWE website released this latest bit of WWE news, and in the report, SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon and general manager Daniel Bryan have proposed three Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Matches between the two brands. The three fights will consist of a 5-on-5 traditional match featuring male superstars, a 5-on-5 traditional match featuring female superstars, and a 10-on-10 traditional match featuring tag teams.

This, of course, comes one day after Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon promised that Hell in a CellRaw‘s next brand-exclusive Pay-Per-View event — would blow No Mercy away. And while there’s no word from the Raw camp as of yet as to whether or not they’ll accept the latest SmackDown challenge, it could prove interesting in terms of fights to see if indeed Raw does pick up the gauntlet thrown by the SmackDown brand.

Meanwhile, in other WWE news, the International Business Times is placing bets on which matches will be the main event matches for the upcoming Survivor Series. The first main event match, of course, is going to be between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, much to the chagrin of Ryback, who recently confirmed that he wanted to face off against the aging wrestling legend. Both Paul Heyman, Lesnar’s representative, and Goldberg have all but confirmed that this match will take place, and Goldberg was recently on ESPN to discuss the implications of his much-anticipated comeback in the wrestling world.

As for the other main event possibility, IBT is speculating that another wrestling legend — namely, Chris Jericho — could go up against Kevin Owens, though this suggestion doesn’t seem to have much of a payoff. Chris Jericho doesn’t really need to go for a championship run, and who knows if Owens will even hold the title after his October 30th face-off during Hell in a Cell against Seth Rollins? But even assuming that Owens still holds the title after the 30th, Jericho still may want to end his heel run and turn babyface. If that’s the case, then perhaps a fight against Kevin Owens would be viable.

Finally, in a more disturbing bit of WWE news, The New York Post is reporting that former superstar Alberto Del Rio was recently involved in a knife fight to defend his girlfriend, Paige. The disgraced wrestler, who is currently making his way to TNA and Ring of Honor, said that the reports questioning the validity of the fight are absolutely ridiculous and show a great deal of ignorance on the part of wrestling fans.

“It was an incident with a guy who disrespected my girl and I just got involved in a street fight. I got a little bit hurt, but thank God I’m fine right now. But for me, it’s ridiculous. To be making assumptions of something, it was a street fight. It was an incident with a drunk guy and I got the worst part of it and that’s it.”

Meanwhile, Paige is showing no signs of returning from her suspension anytime soon. While Paige insists that she was suspended from the WWE because she took a prescription drug, the company challenged the validity of her claims in a statement released to the media.

“Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug. In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury.”
