Gary Johnson: Melissa Joan Hart Explains Why She’s Voting For Him

Melissa Joan Hart is not looking to vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton this upcoming election. The former child star revealed that she’s going to vote for Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson. In fact, Melissa has just been announced as the official chairwoman of his 2016 presidential campaign, as reported by the Daily Beast. Gary has been slammed in the media all week for not being able to name one foreign leader and not knowing what “Aleppo” is, which is located in Syria.

“I want to break away from this two-party system and I think it’s important for people to know that there’s another candidate out there who really toes the line being Democrat and Republican,” Hart revealed in a new interview with People. “I mean he’s libertarian. But socially he’s liberal, but fiscally conservative … [Johnson] was on a border state, so if you want to talk about immigration, he’s the guy.”

Hart previously identified as a Republican and even supported Mitt Romney back in 2012 election. Johnson’s name was also listed on the ballot back in 2012. She revealed that she contacted Johnson’s campaign to see if she could help support him, Joe Hunter, spokesperson for Johnson-Weld 2016, told the Daily Beast.

The 40-year-old actress first took to Instagram to reveal who she’s supporting in the upcoming election. Hart posted a photo of Johnson along with the recent polls about Monday night’s debate.

“I always said I wouldn’t vote for a party, I would vote for the person that was the best for the job…and I think I found him,” she wrote in the caption. “@govgaryjohnson #voteFORsomeone not against someone. My hope is that sometime in my lifetime we can be more than a 2-party country.”

The former Melissa & Joey star is also opening up on other issues such as body acceptance. Hart may have revealed her incredible 40-pound weight loss earlier this year, but even she has come under scrutiny for her weight. Hart revealed on the Today Show on how she’s become a victim of body-shaming.

“Not everyone can be Barbie. I like a little imperfection; I think it’s important. You have to love some of your flaws.”

What’s the one “flaw” that Hart loves most about herself? She admits that loves her indented bottom teeth.

“My top teeth are perfect, thanks to my dentist, and then my bottom teeth, they keep trying to fix it and I won’t let them. That’s one I want to keep.”

The mom of three also revealed why she’s nervous about raising teenage sons in the near future.

“I’m working with someone right now who is telling me the horrors of her teenage son and what he’s doing, so I’m a little skeptical. I thought boys were supposed to be difficult when they were young, because let me tell you, my 4-year-old (Tucker) is giving me a lot of gray this year.”

Hart’s coming of age took place on TV when she starred in the ’90s sitcoms Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. This week marks the 20th anniversary of the first episode of Sabrina. Hart opened up about whether or not there will ever be a reunion or revival since both options are popular these days. She appeared to be gung-ho about it since many of her special moments happened onset of that show.

“It was seven amazing years of my life. We had a blast together. I met my husband while I was working on that show and got married right after it wrapped. I made lifelong friends. It was like a frat party every day at work and if you have to be at work at 5 a.m. every day those were the people to do it with.”

So, will Hart and her co-stars ever be interested in a reunion? Don’t expect it to happen anytime soon, according to a separate interview via Entertainment Weekly.

“I think it’s played out. You can’t end Sabrina better than you ended it — riding off on a motorcycle with Harvey to a No Doubt song, leaving one wedding to go to another. The ending of the show was perfect.”
