Harry Styles ‘Another Man’ Interview: Singer Talks ‘Dunkirk,’ One Direction Coming Back, And More

The Harry Styles Another Man issue, which hit newsstands this week, is a mixed blessing for One Direction fans. The magazine, an offshoot of AnOther Magazine, focuses on men’s fashion and features photo shoots of Styles modeling as well as an interview between Harry, Chelsea Handler, and Sir Paul McCartney.

While the full photo shoot has yet to be made available online, intrepid Styles fans have posted scans and snapshots of Another Man‘s pages on Twitter. The images are alternately moody and playful; sometimes Harry squints and puts on his deepest young-Leonardo DiCaprio pout, and sometimes he’s shown giggling in the middle of a field of flowers.

The Harry Styles Another Man photo shoot is a far cry from the singer’s previous promotional images with One Direction. In those, Harry and the other boys were usually depicted in saturated primary colors and in simple coordinating outfits.

The photos in Another Man hint that Harry is headed towards a new artistic phase in his life. Styles is now making the transition from being a singer to being a multi-hyphenate actor-singer-model-who knows what else.

Since the announcement last fall that One Direction would be embarking on an extended hiatus during 2016 and 2017, Harry has been one of the busiest members. In addition to his Another Man photo shoot, Styles has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s 2017 film Dunkirk. The film, featuring Harry in a still-unknown role, depicts the climactic Battle of Dunkirk during World War II.

While no official promotional images of Styles from the Dunkirk set have been released, plenty of fans and photographers have shared behind-the-scenes photos of Harry in costume.

According to scans of Another Man, Styles touched on his participation in Dunkirk during his interview with Chelsea Handler. Harry placed the blame on his commitments to One Direction for keeping him from pursuing acting sooner, stating that he never had time to work on projects outside of the band.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to explore but I was busy with [One Direction] so I never felt like I had time to do it the right way. When we took some time off, I thought I’d see if it might work.”

Styles also went on to compliment Christopher Nolan’s direction style, especially when working with first-time actors.

“He has an amazing brain, the way he works stuff out. He clearly does so much research and I guess that’s why he doesn’t just churn out a load of movies. It definitely takes some of the nerves away – you know if you do something wrong he’ll tell you.”

In the midst of all this praise and excitement over the film, however, Styles also had a slightly more grim projection for the future. The Harry Styles Another Man interview may be great for solo Harry fans, but it doesn’t exactly paint a hopeful picture for fans hoping to see Harry and the other members of One Direction reunited.

When asked “is [One Direction] over?” by Chelsea Handler, Harry replied that he didn’t know, and then elaborated further about his experience with the band.

“I would never say we’ll never do anything again but it’s good for us to be exploring different things. Maybe at some point everyone will want to do something again but it’s better if it happens naturally.”

Since Harry said earlier that he didn’t have enough time to be both a rock star and a movie star (wouldn’t it be great to have problems like that?), it’s doubtful that One Direction will reunite soon, if at all.

For many fans, the Harry Styles Another Man interview served as the final nail in the proverbial coffin for One Direction’s future. After Harry’s statements went public, many fans took to Twitter to mourn the death of One Direction.

Are you still holding out hope for a One Direction reunion, or did the Harry Styles Another Man interview just get you just excited to see Harry in Dunkirk?
