Nina Dobrev Considered Ian Somerhalder As Her Brother

This may come as a surprise to every Vampire Diaries fans, that before Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder got involved in a serious relationship, the former considered him as her elder brother.

During her earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, when it was asked to Dobrev how she got the part of Elena in The Vampire Diaries, the actress stated that when she moved to LA, the first audition was of Vampire Diaries. Kevin Willaimson and Julie Plec chose the Bulgarian actress because, during the screen tests, she made Elena a little bit more vulnerable.

In the same interview, when it was asked about the current mood on the set, the Chloe actress stated that she enjoys the company of her co-stars.

“We all hate each other. Kidding. We’re, like, awesome. Honestly, I can’t even put it into words. We just all gel so well. We hang out more than you think we should because we want to. We want to be a part of each other’s lives. Paul [Wesley] and Ian [Somerhalder] are like my big brothers. The girls and I get together for girls night and go to the movies and hang out. We’re so lucky.”

Apart from that, Dobrev later confirmed during her interview with Teen Vogue that if she was not involved with Ian, she’d be dating Paul.

“A lot of people who work together end up dating, so it wouldn’t be unusual, but I’ve never dated anyone I’ve worked with.”

Whether she considered Ian and Paul as her “big brothers,” she later got involved with the former. Ian and Nina’s offscreen chemistry became one of the reasons for the show’s enormous success. However, when the duo parted their ways and the actress chose to leave TVD, the supernatural show lost a lot of their viewers.

Meanwhile, there have been reports of a possible reunion between Ian and Nina. The speculations have indeed increased the excitement level among the fans of TVD. In her earlier interview with TV Line, the show’s executive producer Plec stated that the network is trying hard to bring her back for Season 8’s finale episode.

“It’s what she [Nina] and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head… She was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”

At the same time, an insider close to the show revealed to Hollywood Life that it is expected that Nina Dobrev will be a part of the show on a very limited basis.

“There is still tons of time to figure it all out and deal with proper scheduling, but it is going to be a less is more type of situation to finish her story. When the show ends, Nina will be a part of it some way shape or form. She is 10,000 percent coming back.”

But Dobrev does not wish to come back as Elena. She made it very clear during her conversation with Michael Peña for Interview Magazine that the moment she signed the contract, she knew that she would not be extending it.

“I had a great experience, but everything has to come to an end and this was my time. It’s like high school, you do four years and then you move onto the college,” she further stated.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will air on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. on The CW. It is still not officially confirmed whether we get to see a possible reunion between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. What do you think of the actress calling the Lost actor her brother? Tell us in the comments below.
