‘Better Call Saul’ Season 3: Bob Odenkirk Talks Series Future, Gus Fring Spoilers, And Mike

Better Call Saul Season 2 ended with Jimmy McGill being outsmarted by his equally conniving brother.

Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) almost got away with one of his finest forgeries, doctoring documents prepared by Chuck, played by Michael McKean a scrupulous lawyer.

Jimmy did it all for love and it worked, Kim got back the Mesa Verde account, which she worked hard for but lost to Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill – her old firm despite her work on the case.

However, Jimmy’s actions were too big a price to pay, Chuck thought he was going nuts and had another mental breakdown not knowing his brother expertly doctored the Mesa Verde accounts behind his back.

Despite his questionable morals, Jimmy loves his brother and refused to have him institutionalized. He then confessed to the crime to make Chuck feel better. The season ended with Chuck successfully getting Jimmy’s confession on tape.

There is a lot to look forward to in Better Call Saul Season 3 and we may see Jimmy McGill become the cheesy grinning criminal lawyer for drug dealers.

The showrunners teased Gus Fring possibly being cast in Better Call Saul Season 3. Some fans found that an anagram of the first word of each of the season’s episode titles spells “FRINGS BACK.”

Many fans suspect that he may have had something to do with the note left for Mike in his car when he planned on assassinating Hector. Whoever left it could have easily killed Mike, but chose to leave a note.

In an interview with the showrunners with Entertainment Weekly, they discussed Gus Fring’s potential return. Despite the hype, the showrunners suggest that we won’t see much of Gus due to his style of operating in the drug business under the radar so to speak.

“I would be very sad if people were expecting to see that character right away on Season 3. Right now, this is a guy — I’m talking about Gus Fring — who often works very indirectly. This is not somebody who is not easy to access. On ‘Breaking Bad’ at times he was a little bit like the man behind the curtain, like the Wizard of Oz, not so easy to get to see. So, none of this is to say that suddenly you’re going to be seeing an awful lot of that character once we come back.”

So there you have it, if you were expecting to see a lot of the notoriously secret drug lord, it likely won’t happen. However, Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy McGill, shows us the evolution of his character, Saul Goodman, and if he has it his way, there will be a lot more scenes with Mike.

In an interview with Variety magazine, Bob Odenkirk revealed what he would like to see in Better Call Saul Season 3.

“Mike and Jimmy sitting in a tree. Or in a parking attendant’s booth. More me and Mike together, squaring off. It’s just always fun. It makes me laugh. It’s a great burst of energy to be working with [Jonathan] Banks like that. I have crazy ideas. I’d love to see some of Saul during the years of ‘Breaking Bad,’ but off-screen, out of his office, not in his Saul mode. I’m curious what that person is.”

Although Better Call Saul is a Breaking Bad spin-off, the hit series has taken on a life of its own and turned out very different from the original series.

Some critics think Better Call Saul is better, if not equal to its predecessor.

Other than Jimmy’s brother, Kim [Rhea Seehorn] is a big influence in Jimmy McGill’s evolution into Saul. However, she is not a Breaking Bad crossover character, which makes her a mystery.

We may get to see Jimmy become Saul in Season 3, but there has been no confirmation yet. Many fans can’t wait to see what happens in Jimmy’s life that takes him to Albuquerque under a new name.
