‘Destiny’: Xur’s Exotic Goods For Sept. 23, New ‘Rise Of Iron’ Items

The release of Destiny: Rise of Iron this week means some fresh new goods are on sale from Xûr for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners. The mysterious vendor is back for the weekend of Friday, September 23 with a new pair of Exotic boots for Warlocks plus Ornaments to decorate Exotic weapons.

The first appearance of Xûr since the release of the Rise of Iron expansion brings some notable changes. First, the Light levels of all armor and weapons has been increased to 350 with the exception of the Legacy Engram. This provides a suitable option for those with the Strange Coins to spend to increase their Light level quickly. Secondly, Ornaments are sold using the new Silver Dust currency. This can be obtained from Radiant Treasure, which guarantees at least one Silver Dust, and/or by dismantling Ornaments.

This week’s hiding spot for Xûr is in the Reef social area. You’ll want to turn right from the spawn point, head down the stairs past the Bounty vendor, and then go in the first door to the right of the bottom of the stairs. The Agent of the Nine is tucked away in a corner on the right.

For those wondering what to get, here are a few helpful hints.

Monte Carlo

The Monte Carlo is for those Guardians who want to make the most out of their melee ability. This Auto Rifle reduces Melee cooldown when dealing damage and can completely recharge the Melee ability with kills. This stacks excellently with Exotic armor such as Sealed Ahamkara Grasps for Hunters, which grants Nightstalkers two Smoke Grenades and Gunslingers two Throwing Knives.

Twilight Garrison

The main draw for the Twilight Garrison is the fact it makes Titans more mobile. The Tactical Air Support intrinsic perk allows players to do an evasive move while airborne by pressing B, B on the Xbox One or Circle, Circle on the PS4. This piece is best used in Crucible and is very helpful for dodging incoming fire and Supers.

The 64 Intellect/65 Discipline split roll is strong for the piece, and it comes with the option to carry more Special Ammo or Heavy Ammo. It also comes with a choice between increased recovery when taking Solar damage or more armor when playing the Sunstriker in Destiny..

Celestial Nighthawk

Destiny Celestial Nighthawk Hunter Exotic Hunter Helmet (PlayStation, Xbox)

The Celestial Nighthawk is a Gunslinger Hunter-specific Exotic helmet that gives the Golden Gun a single shot with six times the normal damage. The “Big Game” perk is fun to use in PVE and helpful against tougher enemies that barely flinch from a normal, single Golden Gun shot. However, it is not useful at all in PVP, where three to four shots are preferable over one big one.

The perk choices that come by default with Xur’s offering are not great, however. Destiny Hunters should aim for “Inverse Shadow” as a third column perk with either “Infusion” or “Better Already” in the final column. Reroll this with as high an Intellect stat as can be obtained to shoot for faster Super regeneration.

Transversive Steps

Transversive Steps’ perks will not blow you away at first glance. Still, the Strange Angles perk ability to automatically reload a weapon when picking up ammo is deceptively powerful. This allows players to continue firing without a break during an intense PVE firefight or gain crucial time when opening an ammo crate in Crucible PVP.

The optional perks in the third-column give the choice between carrying extra Special Weapon or Heavy Weapon Ammo. Meanwhile, the final column perk grants increased agility for five seconds after a Solar Double kill

The 64 Intellect / 64 Discipline stat roll is solid for this chest armor. Not much reason to re-roll unless you want different ammo bonuses.
