WWE News: ‘WWE Raw’ Ratings Fall Below 3 Million Again, How Can It Be Fixed?

WWE Raw has seen better days. Unfortunately, not even a brand split and WWE Draft could help the WWE’s flagship show. Right now, it hasn’t looked worse in quite some time. Members of the WWE Universe, and more specifically the Internet Wrestling Community, continue to find results and resolutions to fix the ongoing problem. It’s only occurring on Monday’s show, as Smackdown Live is doing very well and their ratings are consistently going up.

In a recent report by the Inquisitr, ratings for WWE Raw dipped and crashed in the first week of Monday Night Football. The two games weren’t anything special either. The Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Washington Redskins right before WWE Raw aired. At 10:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Raiders traveled to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. Neither of those four teams are big ratings hikers. So, it was on the WWE Creative team to properly promote the evening of wrestling and write it properly.

In that episode, according to the Inquisitr article, the ratings were abysmal. They averaged just 2.7 million viewers, which is very bad. Also, on average, the audience went down over 600,000 per hour from two weeks before on September 5. So, it was the September 19 edition of WWE Raw and they were trying to bolster their lineup in order to make a proper go-home show for Clash of Champions. Every title is on the line Sunday and the creative team didn’t do it justice.

There were several segments that had the WWE Universe questioning why they attended the event. The evidence lied in Twitter responses during the show. Aside from Chris Jericho’s list segment, every promo skit didn’t hold up well. Last but not least, Kevin Owens lost to Roman Reigns clean in a steel cage match just six days before his WWE title match. SEScoops is reporting that the ratings fell below 3 million once again.

“Here’s the hourly breakdown:

  • Hour 1: 2.734 million viewers
  • Hour 2: 2.686 million viewers
  • Hour 3: 2.633 million viewers

RAW is up against very stiff competition next week with the first Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, in addition to Monday Night Football.”

The competition isn’t going to get any easier, which is never an excuse. During the 1990s and early 2000s, the WWE had just as much competition, but they resorted to aggressive storylines and risque segments to remain relevant. They were able to take pop culture and vamp it to 100. Owning Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock certainly helped, but it was the writing that got them over with the majority of the WWE Universe.

Disregard the fact that they ruined the main event, but the cruiserweights finally debut and it is in the third hour. It’s proven that 500,000 less WWE fans watch the third hour. So, why debut something when less people watch? Forbes weighed in and said the new division could help boost the ratings.

“WWE bringing the artsy cruiserweight division to a gunfight with the NFL hardly sounds like it will make a dent in WWE’s efforts to salvage viewers. But it can.

“WWE has been promoting the arrival of the cruiserweights for months now, so the initial interest should be there. The most effective aspect of the CWC, which was won by new Cruiserweight champion TJ Perkins, was how it presented pro wrestling like a real sport.”

This was written before WWE Raw and they were right. The cruiserweight division didn’t put a dent in the ratings. In fact, they didn’t improve. What should the WWE do in order to save the ratings? SmackDown Live is right behind their counterpart and the blue brand is looking better by the week.
