‘Supernatural’ Season 12: Back To Basics, Mary And Castiel’s Connection, And More Spoilers

Supernatural Season 12 premieres in a few weeks. Recently, there have been a lot of spoilers released. One of those includes Mary Winchester and Castiel’s surprising connection. Also, expect The CW series to go back to basics.

Supernatural spoilers are ahead. If you don’t want to know what to expect when the show returns, then stop reading.

Last season, Amara (Emily Swallow) gave Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) a gift. She brought Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s mother back to life. Also, a gunshot was heard and fans were concerned that Sam got shot. Now that the trailer has been released as well as promotional images, viewers know he is alive. What can be expected from Mary, Sam, Dean, Castiel (Misha Collins), and the other characters when Supernatural returns with Season 12?

Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, and new showrunner Andrew Dabb spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what to expect when the show airs new episodes. Dabb plans on bringing the show back to the way it used to be: smaller, personal stories with a genre twist. One of those personal stories will have to do with Mary Winchester, portrayed by Samantha Smith.

Supernatural fans can expect Mary and Castiel to have a connection in Season 12. However, it is not a romantic bond. Castiel felt like an outsider, yet had a connection with Sam and Dean. Mary is going to feel the same way. She is their mother, but Mary has been dead since they were young. Suddenly, she is alive again and has two sons who are grown men.

With Mary Winchester, Supernatural fans will also see how Sam and Dean interact with their resurrected mother. It was teased in the magazine that Sam has idolized Mary in his head. He has a certain image of her, and it will be interesting to see if the real Mary is similar or different from Sam’s mind. Padalecki teased what to expect from Sam Winchester in Season 12.

“I think Sam has glorified Mom so much in his head. It’s almost like a blind date and Sam’s already in love with the person he hasn’t met yet. It’s been fun for me, after 240-something episodes, to have a brand new facet of Sam’s personality to play.”

As for Castiel’s role in Mary’s resurrection, Collins said he will play a big part in pushing the family together.

“He is pushing them [Sam and Dean] to confront the emotional bomb that is their mother showing up.”

Some fans wondered if there would be consequences of Mary being brought back to life. Based on the interview, it doesn’t sound like it. Mary, Sam, and Dean are going to be hunting together. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Mary Winchester has not lost her hunting skills. However, there is something that must be dealt with at the beginning of Season 12. That is finding Sam Winchester, who has been kidnapped.

Supernatural spoilers tease that there will be some sort of compromise between the Winchester family and the Men Of Letters. In some episodes, the two groups will band together. In other episodes, expect them to be battling against one another.

As for Castiel, expect much more of him in Season 12. It was teased that fans will learn more about Castiel’s past. He has become a fan favorite character, so this will be exciting to see.

One small Supernatural spoiler that was revealed in the interview was an episode that takes place in Iowa. Sam and Dean will be dressed in sweaters and slacks. On this specific case, the brothers will be posing as social workers. Also, look forward to Mary Winchester learning about modern technology, which should be fun to watch.
